Unhappy Fit Insurance Costs!

I was surprised the insurance for our 4 year old Fit is going to be $1400 per year. Yikes! Agent sez two reasons: "young people tend to own these, and if they get crashed, damage tends to be severe." I was dumb for not checking it out first.

Is that quote with full coverage? I have a 2013 fit sport with full coverage and renters insurance combined. I'm at about $960 a year.

My insurance costs for my Fit have gone up each renewal period because I think the safety ratings on the Fit have changed since I bought mine in 2010-- I have no tickets or accidents. At least this is what my State Farm agent told me.

Full coverage with $500 deduct because it is financed.
Two teen drivers is the killer I believe.

I believe this is the culprit. Teen drivers can be very expensive.

Yeah mine's about the same with $250 deductible and a boatload of coverage/options. It's been like that since I put it on my insurance in 2010. That's fine with me.

Almost certainly that's the case. If you have n adult drivers in the household besides the teens, and the Fit is car n + 1, they'll assume that one of the teens is the primary driver of the Fit, and you pay a lot. That's not a Fit-specific problem; that's just an "insuring teen drivers is crazy expensive" problem. Maybe you could do a little better if you talk to your agent and rearrange who's the primary driver of what vehicle, particularly if you have a less valuable car or one where you don't have collision coverage (only liability).

My insurance is around $1300 a year, however being that I'm a 23 year old single male with no wrecks or tickets does make me more expensive to insure.

You guys sure do spend a lot on insurance! I stick with the most basic plan, anything that makes the car road worthy and legal. Heck, if insurance wasn't required I sure wouldn't have it.

um, when you tap someone's rear bumper (it happens to the best of us) and they claim whiplash and hire a lawyer, you will be sued. They will make you sell your possessions and take your wages. Unless you flee the country, your life will be miserable (and maybe even then).

Some states don't require insurance if you're wealthy enough to post a bond big enough to cover most eventualities. I don't think you're in this category.

Yeah except if the car is financed that's not an option.

Not carrying insurance is one of the dumbest things you can do. Even if I have liability on a beater with no coverage on MY car you better believe i'm going to have something substantial to cover losses if I make a mistake on the road. I've had to deal with a basic liability accident before and luckily the other insurance company was willing to work with us and I didn't end up having to pay out of pocket for damages, but I was lucky. Never again.

This is why everyone in the USA should carry plenty of uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.

I pay roughly half that for my 2008 Fit.

You're either 12 or you're getting ripped off.

So your saying you pay roughly half of $100 for full coverage plus another car covered with liability? Wonder what your deductible is. Also curious with what provider you went with.

It's really kind of impossible to compare 1v1 unless you live in the same area. Rates where i'm at are going to be higher than CT or WI for example.

Insurance is impossible to price match directly from member to member, as others have said there are too many factors to take into account

That being said, I would shop around and find a provider that doesn't make you go through an agent and you will find a lower rate.

I would also lowball your annual mileage estimate and increase your deductible to get the lowest rate

Mine is 779 for 12 months or 389.50 for 6 months which is the way I have to pay every 6 months and I pay in full. Which I love doing and this for a 2013 Fit. Which is very nice and I like it.

I live in Canadastan and I pay about 600$ a year on car insurance. Deductible: vandalism 250$ collision 500$. I was in a small fender bender (cost 750$ To repaint front bumper cover) and my rates didn't go up. I get a slight rebate because I'm over 25 and another because it's considered a "green" car.
