Opened cargo cover perfectly positioned at face level

Does anyone else find that when the trunk is open, the cargo cover is ideally positioned to take out ones eyes, nose, or mouth (depending on one's height)? I mean when you actually lean over to grab or adjust the contents of the trunk.

I guess so...if you're blind. Never had a problem personally.

get window tint and remove that useless cover. it just gets into the way more than anything.

Agreed, it gets in the way, and now I know why the item is considered optional. It seemed odd that a cargo cover wasn't a standard default feature (if it could even be called that). The sales guy said that this was because most people end up simply take the cargo cover off, and it really didn't make sense to me why people would do that since it represents a security compromise. Now I think I know the reason. Funny, he also mentioned tinted windows. Of course, if it wasn't optional, many test drivers might see the glaring problem right away, which would be an immediate turn off.

I am certainly thinking about alternatives. The only one being tinted windows, which I really do not like. But unless there is another option, I think I will eventually do that (following in the footsteps of others, probably for the same reason).

Frankly, I'm surprised. This is Honda we're talking about, the ruler of the market of quality cars for middle-income folks. Attention to detail, iterative refinement, all sorts of Japanese quality assurance for not only manufacturing, but design. Something so flagrantly mis-designed simply doesn't fit the reputation. Especially since it's been out for a few years. I'm really missing my 97 Tercel. I should have maintained it better, it had the potential for way more life.

The Generation 1 version was a nice design. It was the roll up shade style. So it could easily be rolled up out of the way when not needed. Unfortunately the Gen 2 versions have the solid design which is not as versatile. Too bad the earlier version doesn't fit in the GE's. Honda probably went to the current design in a cost saving measure.

Never had a problem- was so happy to be able to get this one, because it is similar to the one I had on my 1992 Toyota Wagon-- I never did like the roll up one on my Subaru since you couldn't store stuff on it.

I leave the lift cords unattached, so it remains flat all the time.

Maybe I'm off-base here, but why are you guys so worried about security? What are you leaving in your vehicles to mandate a cover, tinted windows? My windows are tinted, but it's not because of security issues. I usually don't keep anything in the car worth anything to worry about.

I have 3 wagon style cars, and never ever have used the cargo cover in any of them.

For me It's a matter not so much of security, but for neatness. I have a 2010 with the stock cover. When I have junk in the back I don't have to look at it because all I can see is a nice neat cover.

Same here- I like the cover because it keeps things neat, it has also come in handy when transporting items such as plants
I have tint as well to keep my car cooler, not to prevent prying eyes.

Ok, so I shouldn't be opening closets or looking under rugs when I visit your home. Got it.

Neatness counts, I guess. I've got a bottle of oil, snowscraper, and a change of clothes back there. But I keep it all in a duffel bag, so still looks neat enough for me. I use the cargo area for bikes and such quite frequently, so the cover would just get in the way anyway.

Well, you probably benefited from the following effect: It's been shown that visible bags and boxes in cars attract breaking and entering more than when such items are not in plain sight. They could contain nothing valuable at all, but that doesn't matter. You still end up with a messed up car and insurance goes up (not to mention the deductible and who knows how much lost time).
