Advice on buying a Fit

Is it hard to install the cargo cover? I know you all probably blow me away with ability to install stuff and I will admit to feeling car stupid. I figure something like that isn't but wanted to ask. Let's put it this way, I am not a fan of putting together Ikea furniture - it rarely ends well.

Heads up that the cargo cover is cheaper on Amazon than it is to buy from the dealer, although my friends had the dealer include the cargo cover as part of the package they negotiated at time of sale.

Is it the transmission programming that gives the Sport worse mileage? Or the wheels and extra roll bar?
As far as the cargo cover, there's nothing mechanical about installing it that takes any skill.
The weird part is, there's something under the fabric on the back of the back seat that you have to find. And you do that by sticking a pin into the fabric until you find it (they give you info so you can roughly find it). Then you snap something into it.
Picture throwing an area rug over a tiny hole in a floor, then trying to find the hole through the rug, that's essentially what you have to do. The rest is easy.
If you have any doubts, maybe the dealer would install it for you if you buy it from them. I bought it on line and the savings wasn't that much, maybe $20.

I kid!
if it was anything besides the transmission, the MT Sport would not have the same EPA estimated MPG as the MT Base

For the OEM cargo cover that I bought for my 2012 Fit Sport, there wasn't any modification to the fabric or seats required. Everything just clipped or slotted or hooked into place.
I found the OEM cargo cover for about $120 shipped on Amazon, which was about $60 less than the MSRP. It was enough to make it worth it for me to do it. YMMV.

let me chime in a bit!
get the sport even if you "never" plan on using the paddles to shift, I sold my 07 AT "with paddles" and bought a 2010 MT three years ago and missed the paddles everyday after till I sold my 10 two months ago ( I missed the ease of simply hitting the down paddle (shifting to a lower gear instantly) to zip past slow traffic on the freeway but the thing I found myself doing even after three years was trying to grab the paddle to downshift coming off the freeway to slow the car with out using the brakes) I never replaced any brake pads in either of my fits (37000 miles on each of them) and I took both of them to the track (3.5mile road coarse) as often as I could afford.
these fits are FUN to drive even if it is just to work and back, they handle like an extention of your brain, they are nimble and don't feel as big as they are (i'm assuming you've test driven one and have found that out to and extent?!?)
I have a much faster, way more powerful, track car but found myself wanting to drive the Fit more out at the track (it helped that I knew chances were less likely it'd break something over an entire track day) I know you're not looking for a track car, i'm just saying its fun and driving it never gets old!!!
the sport will have better resale value IMHO in the long run and it looks better(also my opinion) although I love all fit's and check out everyone I see no matter what it looks like, I suggest doing little things to make it stand apart for others (the blue raspberry will help) although Hondas website doesn't even show that color as an option for this year so you might have to settle for what you can find used on in stock.
oh the concept SUV is a four door and it's most likely being built on the fit chassis so it won't be bigger than the fit if i'm not mistaken

If you are getting an automatic I would go with the Sport for the paddle shifters. I have an manual if you were getting an manual I would look at the base model also. I drive aggressively with my 12 Sport and average 33 mpg combined which I am happy about. I brought the fit for the cargo space, gas mileage, reliability and fun factor in driving.
As for the 2015 Fit I am out on this car at the moment I actually have to see one in person before I can decide. If you can wait until next summer there will most likely still be second generation Fits available so you can compare the two models. Plus we will be getting more in depth reviews before its release to help with making a decision.
Good luck.

again, what is it with the paddle shifters? Get an automatic because you don't want to shift it. Otherwise get a manual.
When I feel like passing someone I put the pedal to the metal. It pops from a higher gear to what ever gear is appropriate on its own much faster than I could going sequentially through the gears with paddles. Of course if I had a manual I'd select the specific gear appropriate for my intentions, but that often conflicts with Metro Atlanta traffic.
The automatic also does a pretty good job of anticipating needs by holding gears using grade sensing logic and sensing twisties (repeated acceleration and braking). Grade logic contributes engine braking by downshifting when you brake going down a slope.
And it's all automatic. Amazing isn't it?
If you don't trust, or understand it. Then don't waste your money (it's about $800 extra for an auto).

I do mine all the time with cans purchased at WalMart. I do it when I buy a new car, and I do it after buying a used car (like my Fit), just after using the upholstery tools on my carpet cleaner to thoroughly clean all the seats.
#32
Does the fabric hold up ok? There is fabric by the windows too which will get a lot of wear.
#33
Yes, if you let the automatic do its own thing, in the Sport it gets worse MPG (33 highway compared to 35 highway in the Base). But it will be more fun.
Aesthetically the heavy plastic body effects troweled on the Sport is a turn-off, to me. In other markets they don't offer that crap. That and the reduced MPG for the Sport made it a non-starter for me.

Don't let the dealer sell you on their magical fabric protection.

UPDATE: though the Prius C has better gas mileage and better tech I decided to go for a more fun car with more storage room - aka the FIT!!! The gas was the only hang up but I'm hoping that once I pay the car up and keep it up nicely I can get another 5-8 years out of it and any gas savings will be a moot point.
I appreciate everyone's help and will probably have more questions once I buy it lol. I just need to get the dealer to find my teal color now. =)

I've test driven the fit and maybe I'm an old geezer but I don't really drive aggressively or for fun. It drives fine imo. I did notice it's more fun to drive vs the Prius C but I'm concerned about the mpg disparity.

The fully electric car is the future! After driving my gasoline Fit for as long as possible, I'm hoping my next car will be an electric, maybe a 2020 Fit EV sport

The cost of acquisition of a hybrid compared to a non hybrid is so much compared to the small gain in fuel economy that you have to drive the hybrid for something like 10 years + to break even money wise! I believe Hybrid technology is at least in part to draw yuppies and green conscious people who don't realize the amount of pollution created by the disposing of the battery inside a hybrid.

I plan on going in today to sign on the dotted line and put my deposit down so I'm super excited. The next thing I will be hunting for is a bluetooth accessory (I know there are threads on the forum about it) to just steam my music. I guess I'll have to see how much my local shops charge for labor - hopefully not too much.
I'll post a pic when I get the car - teal power!

I think you will love your Fit and Blue Raspberry is the confirmed fastest color
I have 33K on my 2012 Fit sport that I purchased in December of 2011 and it has been nothing but fun since day one.
The sport was worth the extra money to me but I'm sure I would have been ok with a base as well.I average 31mpg in practically all city driving with a led foot.
I have a small family 2.1 lol and the Fit does it all for us and the storage just can't be beat.I hope you are able to work out a good deal and bring your new Fit home soon.
