importing/exporting a fit in north america

i was researching the fit, and i've realized that it is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper in USA than in Canada. i was wondering if anyone has imported one from USA to Canada yet? Would there be any problems? Would the warranty void? What's the dealio yo!

My read of the warrenty is that it is void if purchased for primary use in another country.

I'm not sure of all the specs needing changes re; daytime running lights, etc.

This is from Honda Canada FAQ's on Movement of vehicles,
maybe an answer there.

http://www.honda.ca/HondaCA2006/Your...ction1.htm?L=E

Perhaps the U.S Honda site has other answers.

As the Fit is made in Japan, it will be taxed an additional 6% on top of PST and GST.

You will also need to install daytime running lights and get the inspection done.

Your warrenty will also not be valid in Canada.

well, thanks everyone for their input.
after some more research, the price of a fit in the states ends up being the same here in Canada after all the fees and taxes.
i don't understand how the states can have such a large discount on the fit compared to Canada (about 2 grand Canadian) and have cheaper PDI (about 500 Canadian) aswell.
it just makes me sad i'll be getting a fit lx for the same price as a fit sport, but hey, a fit's a fit! ... i wish they'd offer taffeta white here at least.

Honda Canada set a high price, for sure - I'm wondering if they will knock off $500 to 1k off the MSRP next refresh for 2008 (if the next Fit is built in North America and thus will NOT be charged 6% duty)

Nissan Versa here is much closer to the US price.

Aside from duties and taxes, you would still have to pay for reregister the US car to Canada. On top of that, if the laws in Canada deems, you might have to tune it to meet CDM DOT standards.

I think you're better off just buying the Fit in Canada.

I don't know for sure, but I'd guess it's because your government likes to tax, which in turn raises the cost of living and doing business across the board.

Socialized healthcare or cheaper cars. Your choice. ;p
