Extended Warranty or not?

Extended Warranty or not?
Hey All,
I picked up a used 2011 Fit Sport yesterday, 30K miles on it, certified used from a dealer. Question is they offered a 7 year extended bumper to bumper for a little over $1300 and looking at the certified manual this morning it looked like the bumper to bumper on a certified is a standard 4 year / 48K mile meaning I have 2 years left on that... I think. Anyways, again, get the extended or not?

I'd say don't, extended warranties and prepaid service contracts are where dealers make their money, especially on a Fit. Assuming the car was taken care off and you see to it's future needs you shouldn't have any issues. it's a reliable car, still made in Japan, so it's better overall. Besides the extended warranties don't cover "wearable items", which covers a long list of items so save your money. My 2 cents.

I've had bad experience with extended warranties (not Honda, another make). Points to consider for you:
Is the cost an issue? If not then go for it. Save your $ if it is.
Are you a DIY/car person? If you are then you can probably handle the basic stuff. Major components are covered by the initial warranty.
It's a Honda Fit, not a luxury/exotic car... Just my take.

I bought my extended 6year 100k mile warranty for $999
I think its worth it if you intend to keep the car well beyond the warranty.
If unsure at all, dont get it til you are close on mileage or time to extend

Nope.
Bank the $1300 and you can pay for most of the maintenance and repairs you will ever encounter and have money left.
When we bought our Fit in '08 they didn't push too hard on this stuff but we just bought a new Accord and they have all kinds of plans that they would be happy to fold into the financing of the car. I asked them about the kinds of things I would be likely to do to the car (busted front facia (already did that), busted air conditioning condenser, busted fog light, you get the drift) and none of that was covered, even under the road hazard part of the warranty. I think they were talking three grand or something like that.
I'll keep the three grand, thanks, and take my chances on Honda reliability.
Cheers.

On average, you'll save money by not getting the extended warranty. The dealer would not offer it if they didn't make money on the deal. (It may help to look at it as a very expensive lottery ticket; you're betting the dealer that $1300+ worth of repairs will be required in the five years after your initial warranty expires. That's a lot of repairs, and the Fit is a pretty reliable car. Unlike a lottery ticket, though, you have pretty limited potential winnings—at most, the cost of a bunch of repairs, should you get a lemony car.)
If you refuse the warranty, they'll sometimes offer you much the same warranty for a fair bit less money. That should give you some idea of how worthwhile they usually are. As others have said, you don't have to buy in immediately; you can think it over and, should you decide its worth doing, get the extended warranty later.
