Also my friends Prelude was limited to 140 or 145 MPH

Max recorded speed on GPS
I didn't take a picture of my speedometer, but I did take one of the maximum speed captured on my GPS.
Look for the number at the top right of the picture. BTW, my Fit's speedometer and GPS display nearly identical readings throughout the speed range.

... just a few observations.
I remember reading a review prior to getting my Fit 5A Sport. It said that it had a governor at 115mph.
I always have to find out what my cars will do top-end, because I am a firm believer in the concept that "a man has got to know his limitations". -- any movie afficienados out there know what movie that was from?
On a day that happened to be particularly windy I decided to find out. I got into fifth but I was limited by power and wind resistence, so I shifted down into 4th. and it hit 115mph BAM? governor! -- and it wasn't at redline (in fourth).
You can tell you hit the governor because it feels the same as the redline. -- you get an instant fuel cut-off, and its like getting jerked forward, slightly.
I bought a new Civic hatchback back in 1995 and it too had a governor. It was set to 116mph.
Hope some of you find this helpful.

I got mine up to about 120 (according to my gps) on a road near my house....i could have went a little faster but i had to pass a slow moving mini-van on the shoulder and I was coming up on a school zone (they were letting the kids out) so I backed her down. Im gonna go out tommorrow and try to hit it off again....I know shes got some more in her.

OK
Didn't have camera available this time either but:
On return trip from Dallas, on a secluded undisclosed private highway,
I got the car up to the limiter thrice more...but this time they were on a down hill.
I got it to go slightly past the 115mark on the speedometer. So I believe the limiter is a little lenient. this time the speed was abruptly cut off at 116-117mph range.
The cutoff feels definitely like a fuel based cutoff. There's a instant drop like it's just stalled or something....which explains a few things.
What I noted again was that the RPMs were nowhere near red line when cutoff occurred:
The Tach read 5,6K(roughly) when the car was inhibited by the governor.
just wanted to update if anyone was interested.

Fit Is Governed
It's a fuel cutoff
Top Speed Limited to around 117mph(115mph) on a M/T Fit

dude, you must have got a bad fit or something...mine totally goes faster than that, maybe you just weigh to much for your car to take you any faster? sounds like you got a clogged fuel filter or maybe your vtec isnt working.

Removing the electronic speed limiter.
Yeah, the Fit definitely has a governor that limits it to 115. I read that it's electronic. Does anyone know of a way to remove it without replacing the entire ECU? I lost a race to a Mazda 3 b/c I couldn't go over 115 on the interstate.

I would watch out for one of those new 3's, that are capable of 155mph. ?You'd just be another notch for him and I don't like to hear about anyone getting beat in a Fit / Jazz. But of course I bought mine for maximum fuel mileage.

I call BS there is NO limiter. OK now prove that there is and not a bunch of "well my car stopped at 120" posts. Post a circuit diagram, a photo, a system description, a line from an ECU controller instructions (from a Fit/Jazz) a pin out location ANYTHING REAL some TANGIBLE evidence.

Since there is, in fact, a governor, I suggest you prove that there isn't. In doing so, you too will prove there is and you won't have to rely on others. "BS"? Give me a break!

That's 109hp vs 156hp, it's like day and night. Did anyone here actually got a Fit to go fast? I think most folks here know that the Fit is no power house before buying, and got it anyway for the looks, price, mileage and/or utility.

i used to want to remove the governer, but then i was like um i don't need the extra tickets or the instant death that would result in the event of accident. but then i thought about it some more and decided i'm already doing 115 and by that time she's just getting ready to fukc some shit up. so now i decided that i do still want to somehow remove the governor. i know she'd easily do 125, EASILY. just set cruise control and i'm good.

Movie quote--From a Dirty Harry movie, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's Magnum Force.
Anyway, as far as defeating governors, I don't know for sure, but I remember reading articles about companies like Superchips that make inline plug and play override units. The car that comes to mind is the old 240SX. One company made a unit that plugged into the ports on the computer, and basically recalibrated the data going in, so the speed recorded was cut in half going into the computer, which doubled the mph number that the speed limiter cuts in. So basically, the limiter wouldn't come on until the 240 SX reached over 200 mph---something it obviously couldn't do in stock form.
I don't know how companies currently do this, or if any still out there do, but the concept seems sound. Trick the Fit's computer so the limiter won't come on until 230 mph.

BS show me your evidence. Where did your "in fact there is a governor" line come from. I have already proved there is NO speed limiter or governor it's easy there is no speed limiter in any wiring diagram for the FIT or in any pin out for the ECU connectors.
But for you I will do it this one time it's easy my car and several others have gone over 120 mph (on the local track of course). Just because yours doesn't doesn't mean there is any mechanical or electrical device stopping you your car just doesn't have the balls.
Over to you and waiting for some EVIDENCE it should be easy show me it in the wiring diagram or pin out..... can't not there, or maybe a section in the repair manual as mechanics have to know how to repair it... can't not there, or maybe an advertising phamphlet... can't never mentioned.
So let us know where you got your information and like they say "show me the money"

From everything i have read (some posts in this thread excluded) there is a limit of 115mph on the fit. However, some companies say they put a governor on but don't actually do it. I guess i will have to test it for myself. I do know FOR A FACT that Dodge claimed to have governed my car @ 145 ..... but lied.

The fit has a governor and so does other older hondas
my 94 civic had it
and the fit had it(took it up to 115mph going up on a bridge)
how do I know?
because explain why else the speedometer keeps bouncing off a certain number but the motor is no where close to redline.

To the "there iz no limit brah i wuz totally up to like...12...no like 130 at least man on residential roads n' shit brah it was totally...fully sick man there is no limiter what are you talking about"
I have always been under the impression there is a limiter at 115. Most evidence in this thread would seem to back that up, seeing as there's a picture of sometimes GPS with a 114 max speed, and a picture of someone's speedometer a hair past 110.
If anyone could post hard evidence that they got their Fit to 120, I'll eat my hat.
