Top speed

I may have to repeat this with a small camera to record (a.k.a validate) my findings but....
From what I remember, the tach hadn't hit redline when the power cut out.

Didn't have camera available this time either but:
On return trip from Dallas, on a secluded undisclosed private highway,
I got the car up to the limiter thrice more...but this time they were on a down hill.
I got it to go slightly past the 115mark on the speedometer. So I believe the limiter is a little lenient. this time the speed was abruptly cut off at 116-117mph range.
The cutoff feels definitely like a fuel based cutoff. There's a instant drop like it's just stalled or something....which explains a few things.
What I noted again was that the RPMs were nowhere near red line when cutoff occurred:
The Tach read 5,6K(roughly) when the car was inhibited by the governor.
just wanted to update if anyone was interested.
Fit Is Governed
It's a fuel cutoff
Top Speed Limited to around 117mph(115mph) on a M/T Fit

i had the sh*t scared out of me when it happend. i was running late to school driving on the freeway. its amazing how quiet it is, you look down and your all ready going 100mph. so i pushed it cause i was in a hurry, not thinking of my speed all of a sudden the engine started cutting in and out, like it was dieing. i was scared untill i realized it happend at 115mph. i was in 5th (like allways) and the engine is almost done being broke in. the i relized it was a govener. i was only a little upset, its not like i plan on going that fast all the time.

So...
If there's no governor......
What is it that makes the engine start to... erm... sputter? (stop running beiefly then pick up again) when you red line it (Sport AT using the paddle shifters...)?
I did that for the first time last night... someone was making fun of my little car having no horse power... so I popped it into S, pulled the left paddel to force it into Manual mode... and it redlined... and started ... doing THAT....
I guess... before - if you just put it in S... it'll shift once you hit redline - and if you pull the upshift paddle the same time it shifts it'll skip a gear - that's what I was trying to avoid...
Just a thought... haven't had mine over 95.....

Seeing as this is the first US Honda to have a governor, I wonder if it may have something to do with aerodynamics or something like that being a limiting factor for safety reasons? It would be interesting to find out the rationale.

yeah I mean...it can't possibly go much faster than 115 any way so why put any effort forth to govern it?
red line is only 1000k away at that point and i'd say unlimited the car could possible do only 125ish with stock gearing.
It does bring up an interesting question....

I'm not sure if this is the right topic discussion to ask my question, but I was wondering how this car feels at high speed and/or windy days on the highway. Since it's light and has a broadside, does it feel more unstable than other cars?

The Fit will hit 110 mph with no hesitation and it wants to go faster. The little thing has got some kick and I love driving mine on the interstate.

Bringing this up again.
Today on the way home from the KamiSpeed meet I decided to see how fast I could get my Fit to.
Hit 110-115mph. Car got up to speed smoothly and not as long as I thought it would. Also, no vibrations and the car was very stable. Im surprised it didnt have vibrations. Im running hub centric adapters but the adapters are not hub centric to the wheels.
As I was doing 115mph I had a sweet Lexus GS430 following me (lowered on 19's.), and my friend in his crappy Rondo rental. Kinda cool. Fastest Ive gone in my Fit.

I know there have been previous Hondas with speed limiters mainly due to the tires' speed rating. My '93 Civic was limited due to the OE tires rated at ~110mph (S-rating). Also, I believe my current car (2002 EP3) is limited to ~130mph due to the stock tires speed rating (H-rating).
Looking at tirerack.com, the stock tires on the base Fit are S-rated while the stock tires on the Fit Sport are H-rated. So, Honda may have decided not to adjust the speed limiter for the Fit Sport even though it is equipped with tires that would handle 130mph. Hope this helps.

It felt like she could have gone faster. Reason why I slowed down was because 408 (highway) is under construction. Hitting half new paved and unpaved roads isnt that fun at 115mph. Hahaha!
Boy were my tires rubbing.
I held 115mph for a good 20sec. May not sound long but at that speeds its awesome. Fastest Ive gone was 137-140mph in my Mx-6. 3 people in my car and the A/C on. We hit a dip in the road, shat our pants and slowed down.
