I think its because most of these Fits have under 5000miles. I know that the car is already broken in and everything but the cars at my job (Carmax Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep) mention best mileage after 10,000miles.

Fit AT Sport
About 27XX miles on the clock; 34 psi all around.
Best Gas MPG: 40 mpg highway averaging 75 mph without AC on.
Worst Gas MPG: 24 mpg pure street driving with AC on 90% of the time.
Average Gas MPG: 26 mpg 90% city driving with AC on 90% of the time.
I average about 35 mpg driving on the highway with the AC on.

A couple things to consider regarding this situation...
Often times very efficient cars are VERY sensitive to how they are driven.
Couple this with the possibility of either a problem with the AT, OR that the ATs might take much longer to break in, and we get lower than expected gas mileage.
If I had an AT Fit and were getting lower than expected economy, I think I would order compatible transmission fluid and have the fluid changed. Perchance the factory is using the wrong ATF?
This is a mystery that will continue to be encountered and investigated. Keep this thread going! Keep the data coming!

I'm getting close to 6,000 miles on my Sport AT. Overall mileage is at 29.5 mpg, with a best tank of 33 mpg.
I have an appointment with my dealer tomorrow to do an ECU reset and idle-learn procedure, which probably wasn't done at PDI.
95% of the time I "baby" my Fit the way that I drive it.

just hit empty, gas tank thing lit up at some of my worst miliage yet!!
188.7!!!! on 9.5 gallons. drove a lot of highway this week too. around the 20 mark yet again. and they tell me its the gas. i love this car otherwise! think i am going to check out the BBB and the lemon law.
been looking at others to trade it in but the way it handles i dont want to. i notice that the tych hits the 4000 mark between gears 1 and 2 and 3 (i have an automatic) that seems awful high.
i am at a loss. honda is not taking it seriously. if gas isnt leaking on the ground and the computer cant find it - nothing is wrong.
i am going to use shell gas this week. just for the lady at honda america

Just went through another tank of gas in my sport a/t.
I topped it off. Drove it until I hit E adn the light came on.
I got 188 miles. Mostly freeway driving with the a/c on.
No passengers. I have 2000 miles on the fit.

Man, you and Jimmy101 have some bad numbers.
The main normal MPG factors I can think of are:
1) Driving over 70mph (drag is BAD)
2) AC use
3) windows open at high speed
4) accellerating too fast (probably the biggest culprit)
5) lots of stop and go driving
6) low tire pressure
I have a feeling you're both trying to limit the above factors, so your numbers are pretty damn low. Good luck

hi guys, from the Philippines. i got a 1.5 vtec cvt and i usually drive it in the city with stop and go traffic. i use 16 inch tires with 195/50 bridgestones with 32 psi all. daily drive with ac on cuz its hot in here. average 9 km/li or 22 miles / gal. i dunno if its the traffic here or what. when i used to have the stock tires which are 185/55/15 is used to get the same milage. i wonder if somethings wrong with it or its just the damn traffic.
btw hiway driving is awesome. highest was 48 miles/gallon hehehe

yep around 170-190 for half a tank - on 100% highway i'm over 200 for the halftank mark. This is for a Sport AT w/ 3k miles. You sure you're parking brake isn't on? LOL

I use cheveron & union 76 gas. THe dealer says its the summer formula gas, sold here in Las Vegas. But I still think its to low. I plan on taking it in when I have some free time and let you guys know what they say.

The info that I have found on ethanol blends show 5% mpg drop on 10% ethanol gas. That would be like going from 33mpg to 31mpg. All blends need to meet the same fuel spec whether it is summer/winter blending for performance or an EPA reformulation requirement. i.e. the EPA used to require oxygenate blends (MTBE, Ethanol...) during the peak ozone season, typically June to September.
Experimenting with different brands/sources could show some good results, though I doubt you would see anything like 10-20 percent changes. To keep it scientific you should run several tanks from the same source, and compare to several tanks from another soure before making any judgements on its impact on your mpg. You want to eliminate as much of the "driving conditions" variable as you can.

i started using shell gasoline cause it has more detergent and the honda lady said i should use a better gas then costco. i am at the 1/4 tank mark and am doing just as bad as using the costco gas. just spent more per gallon. 54 miles at 1/4 tank.
