And that's the problem...last i checked, Walmart does not sell a battery in the correct size for the Fit. If it was a "normal" size battery, or one that is widely carried, then I would do mainly what I always do...allow the battery to give me a problem before I replace. I've been lucky that most of my battery failures happen in the comfort of my garage. I'm still waiting for someone to show a good quality photo of a standard battery size (51R) in the Fit that does not look like a rigged job. Anyone??

Sorry- still getting used to a new computer running Windows 8 after too many years with XP. Will try to edit with a bigger photo. Your next question will be "Does it fit with a stock GE intake?" I don't know but will find out next year when I have to re-install the stock intake for my first CA smog certification. I think that it will fit. Will try to replace the photo in a little while.

OK, under the original thumbnail, there is now a direct link to Imageshack with larger photo (refer back to post #12). The Kirkland 51R was a very good buy and I have jump-started 4 or 5 cars and trucks since I installed it. No power issues at all.

My 09 Fit has the original battery. My 05 Colorado has the original battery. In my motor home I replaced all there batteries on 02. If you keep them charged and full or electrolyte (water) they will as along time. I just noticed my garden tractor battery has an 06 date. I got 12 or 13 years out of my airplane battery that I replaced last year. I have too may batteries around to be guessing about their failure dates. When they go bad I replace them but not before. Any guess by me on when they will fail could make could be off by many years.

 

Anybody using Shuriken Model: SK-BT28 700W / 28 AMP HOURS battery? I took my 09 Fit for service at the dealer and it failed the battery test. I’ve done research and found that aside from the 151R battery, the Shuriken Model SK-BT28 seems like a good replacement. It looks like it will even fit the plastic battery enclosure. You will need a Shuriken post adapter and maybe a rubber mat on the bottom of the enclosure to raise the Shuriken to about the same height as the 151R.


If any member is currently using this battery, please post about fitment or problems encountered with this battery.

Because of work and life in general, I haven't checked the battery but have yet to have an issue with the car starting since my son jump started it.

The distributor in our area said he has a post adapter and know several car owners using audio battery as primary. I will know for sure when the battery arrive around the 2nd week of June.

 

I got 13 years out of my motorcycle battery and bought another only after some faulty trouble shooting. It was still good.

 

700W is meaningless by itself. Pure marketing hype. Any car battery will produce 700w of power; for how long is something else. 700W at 12V is 58 amps. If your audio battery is rated at 28AH it'll produce 700W for about 30 minutes.

The OE battery is 35AH. This is a measure of the battery's reserve capacity; useful if you leave lights on, or just let it sit for long periods. The OE battery will produce 700W for about 36 minutes.

Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) is another useful measurement. The battery's ability to sustain peak loads for a certain period of time at cold ambient temperatures. Something useful to know in the great white north. Audio batteries probably don't provide this measurement as their intended use isn't cranking car engines. The OE battery produces 335CCA 335A at 12V is over 4000 watts. Using the audio battery's sales pitch, a 151R is at least "4000W".

I think a lot of people are being sold on audio batteries thinking they're getting something better for less. I'm not sure this is ever true for use as a starter battery. Where they probably excel, is as an aux power supply for audio equipment where the battery is housed in the back of a hatchback or under a seat and you don't want the risk of spilling acid.
