changes in the FIT thoughout the year (US)

trying to figure out the difference in design of the various years of the HONDA FIT. Asides from the design between the two generations is there a way to tell the difference?

First Gen (2001 - 2008)

Second Gen (2009 - Current)

is there a clear way of distinguishing the difference between each year in each generation (eg 2009 and 2010) just by looking at it? i am pretty sure the engine is a little different where models like the hybrids were introduced.. lets say all sport models.

thanks.. but they still all look the same hehe maybe some extra features in the newer ones.. so no way to tell the diff by just looking at two fits? if you had two fits side by side.. and was told one is a 2009 the other 2011.. can you tell which is which?

I don't think you can tell specific years. There was a refresh in 2012, so you can at least tell the differences between an 09-11 and a 12 and up.

The 2012 (and up?) Fit has a different front grill from the 09-11:

Fit sport has different wheels for 12 and up.

Steering wheel audio controls in the 2012 and up Fit (sport? or both?); was previously only available with navigation.

Seat fabric in the 12 looks a little different than the older ones...

I don't see the difference unless this site is wrong (source: http://static.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com). For the 2011 photo it looks like they used a fit sport with base tires some reason.

good call.. i found a write up regarding this.. (only applicable to the Sport model though i should change the photos to all sport models instead of the base, which seems unchanged)

A New Snout for the Fit Sport

The Fit lineup continues unchanged into 2012, and still consists of the base Fit and the Fit Sport. Both get new cup holders, console ambient lighting, and additional sound insulation in the floor, front fenders, and A-pillars—the latter hopefully addressing one of our only complaints about the Fit, its high levels of road noise. To that end, Honda also thickened the glass used in the Fit’s unique front quarter windows. The base car picks up new wheel covers for its 15-inch steelies, as well as body-color side mirrors in place of the black-painted units on last year’s model.
The Fit Sport was given more attention, with new blacked-out headlight surrounds, new 16-inch aluminum wheels, and a reworked front grille and fascia. Inside, the Sport is set apart with a new dark metallic finish replacing the previous black and gray theme; new cloth upholstery; and chrome accents ringing the outboard HVAC vents, center HVAC control tabs, and gauge pods. In the functional department, the Sport’s steering wheel gains audio controls as standard; buyers previously needed to pony up for the navigation system to add them. If you do need directional guidance and hate your left foot—nav can’t be had with a manual transmission—the system now includes Bluetooth phone and audio-streaming capability, and is also upgraded to run from 16 gigs of flash memory instead of a DVD.

2009
Compared to the original Fit that landed on our shores in 2006, Honda's sophomore effort is larger, more spacious and marginally more powerful. But when you sit down with the spec sheet there are only a few "improvements" worth getting excited about. After spending a week with the 2009 model, we found that while evolution is good, some things need to stay the same. Make the jump to find out why.
It's tough to say which Fit is more attractive. We liked the simple honesty of the outgoing version, but as fans of the Euro Civic, the 2009 model's frontward aggression is a welcome addition. The fascia is more angular and less anonymous, and matched with the sculpted swage lines, over-styled hatch and dainty spoiler, the Fit Sport has ditched most of its mini-minivan character in favor of a dynamic shape that lends some familial cohesion to the lil' runabout. Praise be to Honda for erring on the Euro side of its recent stylistic endeavors, as we can't imagine the rhinoplastic horrors that would have afflicted the Fit if a Pilot/Ridgeline facelift found its way up front.

2010
The 2010 Honda Fit's appearance is a good approximation of its overall character--it's different without being idiosyncratic, accurately preparing you for what's inside. With only minor tweaks, such as a rounder snout and some side body crease lines, the styling has become aggressive where the previous generation was awkward, and the longer wheelbase wears the updated skin well.

(ill update more as i find them later)
