anyone running a dash cam?
Is anyone running a dash camera? I'm sure we've all seen a bunch of youtube videos of accidents caught on a dash cam. I'm thinking of getting one for my fit and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Thanks

was using a Samsung TL350 attached with a manfrotto tabletop stand industrial double side taped onto dash when i was driving a 91 accord, quality was good but battery life wasn't. right now im using a GoPro Hero3 suction cupped onto windshield.
But HONESTLY, it's all about budget.

Check out aliexpress, they have quite good range. Recommend a gt300w. Great night N day. There is also a great web review site. Check out Dash Cam Talk

The obvious choice is the lighter/accessory outlet circuit. If you're looking for a circuit in the roof of the car, I don't think there's one there for the Fit that's switched with the ignition, since there are no factory accessories mounted on the roof that are so switched. (There's certainly none near the front of the car, at the very least.)

There are. But the smaller the camera sensor behind the lens is, the poorer the quality of the video.

Using a G1W, bought from estore099 in ebay. He sell real car dash cams. Got mine for 52USD. Check out this item I found on eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...=1310287038682

My reg camera has a setting for shooting through glass, it takes away the reflection image, do the dash cams have it built in? My fit has terrible reflections, early morning it wouldn't pickup a picture without this feature. What would I look for in a dash cam specs that would determine it can correct reflection from the windshield.

I have a BlackVue DR550GW 2 channel dash camera in my 2013 Fit Sport.
It shoots 1080p/30fps out the front and 720p/30fps out the rear simulateously onto 1 microSD card.
It has fancy features such as: records constant while driving - then goes to parking mode automatically and records only when there is movement on one of the cameras. Have a box set so when the battery hits 11.8 volts it automatically kills power to the camera's preventing the battery from draining til it won't start. It also has GPS built in, and Wifi so I can look at the cameras from my iphone. It also records audio inside the car.
Fairly fancy. Set it and forget it. Running the rear camera wiring was a royal pain in the ass because it's a hatch - ran it through the rubber section with the rest of the stock wiring.
Damn good insurance policy to have.

Absolutely- a palm sized high-definition dash cam that starts/stops automatically when I start/stop the engine, keeps the most recent 5 hours of video on a 16Gb SD memory card. Plug, place, and forget about it. Only $75.

Which model did you get?

Update Warning!
Just a "Heads Up" on that 4Sight Dash Cam that I purchased at PepBoys, I've only had it for 2 weeks, and it has already "died" on me. During the time that it did work, I discovered that the daytime video was "just marginal," the audio was "poor," and the night vision was nearly "worthless." I plan to return it.
I guess if I want better quality video, audio, night capture, and reliability, I'll have to look at something more like Ky1eRC's BlackVue DR550GW 2 channel dash camera.

Video clarity was important to me - getting that plate number to be actually legible is key to a hit and run. And KEY to a parking lot incident where someone backs into my car and drives off.
A shitty camera would be nearly useless.
