The Recaro is great but don't get the infant one, your kid will outgrow it too fast, wait until your kid is big enough for the toddler seat. I'm getting my daughter this one and rewrapping it in pink 'Alcantara' material:

My kid goes o Craigslist for stuff like infant seats, booster seats, tow bikes and stuff... He walked all over Seattle with is little girl in a car seat that converted to be worn like a pack.. He bought for a fraction of what a new one would have cost but it looked brand new. He once bought a refrigerator for his patio that way that was full of beer that the seller threw in..

Considering these items are practically useless to most people within a few years, I'm pretty sure this isn't a bad way to go, though you do take a risk on safety to some degree. I doubt many people risk it, which is why that industry absolutely banks off new parents. I mean, my generation didn't even wear seat belts 'til we were teenagers and I'm not that old! I doubt my car seat was that fancy as a toddler, or anyone else I knew. We all made it. lol

edit: I'd just get a bigger car. They're safer.
