Changing driving style to get better mpg
I have slowed down and drive a little smarter and my mpg is way up. Whats weird is I drive the same route for over 10 years and I have a ultra gauge which says I am averaging a faster speed even though I slowed down.
I used to drive 70 mph plus on the Interstate and got close to 40 mpg average. I do not use server Hyper-miler techniques and I still pass distracted drivers.
Any other ideas?

I know changing my driving habits would increase my MPG. However, I will not change my driving habits just reduce the number of trips when gas prices are higher.

You have to enjoy driving when you've done it for 12 hours a day for 30 years. Gas here is too expensive and is a big expense. I heard today Chicago has the highest average in the lower 48. Last week I seen premium 4.75 and I live were gas is 25 cents cheaper than Chicago due to cheaper taxes.

I try to get both speed and mpg. I do enjoy driving more than most and because of having a CDL I have to be more patient.

Unfortunately I cant reduce the number of trips so getting better mpg is just as important as working. It subsidizes my income.

I try not to get like that but I do find my self driving like that sometimes too. That is where patents come in but after a long day driving a truck I want to get home. As long as you keep a distance from the car in front and the state trooper don't see you weaving in and out you can get away with speeding but it also depends on what time of day.

I know I am lucky most of my driving is self imposed not necessary for work. But, I got my Fit almost 4 months I have put on 10k on it and additional 3k on my Miata approximately 13k in that time frame. Gas here is not as bad as where you are located $4.05 for 87 octane. The stores here give reward points for gas usually earn $.30 a gallon discount.
