Have you been CARDED for buying Marvel Mystery Oil?

Just yesterday I had the strangest experience. I've use Marvel Mystery Oil for the last 40 years on my cars and airplane, so when I ran out I went to the local Walmart, here in CT, to buy a couple of quarts. At the register, when the teller got to the Marvel Mystery Oil, the register started flashing with the words, "Verify the buyer is over 18 years old!!!" I thought the whole thing was some kind of a joke, but the teller, as a requirement, verified I was over 18, which was obvious. I asked the manager what this was all about. Apparently, Marvel Mystery Oil is the latest drug being used next to cough medicine, and so, has to be sold to only people over 18. I never heard of this before. What they told me was that kids now mix the stuff with moth balls and sniff it out of a bag. This pisses me off, as its already too much trouble signing, and showing my drivers ID for cough medicine. What next? With all this trouble, the price of the MMO is bound to go up, now. Anyone else have the same issue?

I tried googling it and cant find anything about abusing MMO. Sounds like a bunch of horse shit thought up by an overpaid corporate lawyer who needed to do something one day to justify his (or her) job.

Walmart is the worst, They card you for spray paint too. If you have gray hair they still card you. They have to ask if the computer says so and the cashiers feel stupid about it too. Welcome to USSA where every one is guilty and computers tell you what to do.

I bought a gallon of the stuff about two weeks ago along with a gallon of naptha, acetone and toulene... You'd think with what all I was buying they would have hauled me to jail if MMO was reason to card someone. I can't believe anyone would get high sniffing any of this stuff.. I guess they have no idea of how good it goes down with cherry koolaid.

To get off my own thread for a second. In addition to the MMO carding, I bought some Mobil 1 5w20 in a 5 quart size. I was charged exactly the price listed on the item plus normal tax for CT. A few months ago I wanted to purchase some of the Mobil oil at COSTCO. When I went up to the counter they tried to charge me an additional fee of $1.92 per quart. I refused the item and later checked with the manager of COSTCO about this new charge. He appeared dumb about it, but said it was some handling fee imposed by the State of CT, something to do with disposal of oil, which I wasn't disposing. I could never find an adequate answer, but was never charged this fee at Walmart for the oil. Now!!!... this garbage about carding for MMO. I have to agree with MeTaLoFeArTh... this has to be some corporate level crap because no one seems to know anything about it, as well.
