How to defrost properly?

Alright, I know how to work the defroster and eveyrthing in all the cars I have ever had.. but they never seem to work very well I was just woundering what the proper way to do this is.. do I try and match the temp inside the car from the outside or make it hotter inside the car or colder.. what should I do to make this work right?! I'am getting annoyed with having to use the wipers to clear all the condencation!

what are you talking about specifically? front windshield? rear?

inside condensation?

outside condensation?

if you are talking about front windshield inside condensation, if it is hot outside, turn on your A/C and blow to windshield only and turn the temp guage to cold air.

if it is cold outside, turn your heat and A/C on and blow to windshield.

either way turn the A/C ON because it acts as a dehumidifier to take the moisture out of the air.

Yeah you'll want the A/C on to take the moisture out of the air. Hondas usually do this automatically when you turn it to defrost, the Fit does.

Also important - if the condensation is on the inside, make sure that you have the vent set to bring in fresh air - don't have it in recirculation mode......

During the hotter months, if you have your A/C on full-blast, you'll often get condensation on the OUTSIDE of your window, especially early in the morning, when the humidity is highest. Your only way to prevent that is to slowly inch up the temperature setting from coldest to warm(er), until the condensation stops appearing. If you must have it colder, then you're stuck using the windshield wipers to clear it off.

To get the quickest defrost/defog, start with the air being recirculated, your vents on defrost, the A/C turned on, and fan on full blast. The temperature is best set on its hottest level. Once it's clear, back down the fan to 1 or 2, change your temperature to your desired level and slide the air circulation setting to pull in fresh air, or else, they'll fog up again.

You can find some defrosting tips in your owner's manual (page 103 - 104) as well.

i'm pretty sure the a/c goes on automatically when you have the defroster on even tho the a/c button doesnt light up. i read it in the manual thingy

She's right.

Though I think the A/C button does light up...according to another forumer that has a malfunctioning A/C button that won't hold. So he couldn't turn the A/C on via the button and had to resort to using defrost. Nevermind, I just grabbed my manual, and it says the A/C indicator will not turn on if the A/C was previously off.
