High Revs in the Fit

I've been driving my 010 Fit now for a little over a year and am wondering if it is up to high revs on an occasional basis. Also am wondering if high revs will allow me to shift (and release clutch pedal faster)?

Oh it's up to it, are you? Finding them will help you shift better as well as put a smile on your face. Ease on into it, have fun.

I've been driving the Fit pretty conservatively to date...shifting at the recommended shift points, etc. I'm looking for a faster getaway from a stop so after I get moving in first, can I rev it close to the redline, shift and quickly release the clutch pedal and then do the same in 2nd without damage to the transmission?

I take her to 6800 at least once every couple of days, She's fine. Oh and the quick shifts will bark the tires on the 1-2 souper coool!!

I'll wind out the gears every once in a while. The throttle delay might throw you off at first when shifting. I don't try to drive it like a dragster and use it to my advantage. I'll also drop down a gear at speed every now and again.

I take mine to red line several times a day. Just turned over 100K miles. No problems, no oil consumption.

Rev the snot out of it. It's a 1.5 liter Honda engine, it's made to rev. If it didn't like revving ours would be dead by now. It's doing just fine...

Every once in a while I'll wring it out, but its not a regular occurrence. Just enough to avoid carbon buildup.

Mine sees 7000(J's reflash before someone tries to call BS) everyday several times a day when I get an opening in traffic. I still wouldn't call that high revs, but for the rod/stroke the L15A has, it is a decent rev I suppose.

you gotta rev this car high to have fun in it. you'll have to learn and time yourself when to clutch-out immediately into your higher gear when the rpm is matched. this is the only way to get super smooth shifts at redline with bascially no abuse to drivetrain.

you can however force the car to shift earlier but it will be abrupt and hard on your drivetrain. i doubt it would break though, considering how hard i drove the GD's MT.

OK, I tried revving the Fit higher moving in 1st. I didn't make the redline, but I'm sure i was in the shift zone for 2nd. I shifted to 2nd and quickly released the clutch pedal. Everything seemed to go smoothly...no jerking or unpleasant noises. I did the same drill going from 2nd to 3rd again quickly releasing the clutch with seemingly good results.

This being my first stick, I think I've been too focused on doing things by the numbers...slow deliberate shifts with slow deliberate clutch releases, etc.

Does it sound like I'm on the right track now? With the quick clutch release, I'm not messing up the synchronizers or anything am I?

As long as you don't feel any jerks, hear any clunks or bangs you're probably not doing any real harm to clutch or synchros.

Excessively slipping the clutch (revving with the clutch only partially engaged) isn't great, I guess that's the only exception to this rule.

I'm glad your self-learning is going well

Actually I come off the gas before pressing the clutch pedal, then I clutch in, shift, quickly release the clutch, and get back on the gas.

^^I'll agree^^

If the shifts are smooth and quick all is good. It will become second nature after a while and you'll know it all by the sound of the engine and feel of the car - the tach is more of a distraction.

Sounds like you're using the throttle lag to your advantage, well done.

I am interested to see how the I rev goes over time. I say not to worry about it.

The Fit begs to be driven with a heavy foot. I can't believe how much fun it is to blast around as fast as the car can manage. Its engaging, its entertaining, just all kinds of fun.
