I could buy myself a Porsche Cayman and put $30,000.00 in my mutual funds.

he might be from some odd land where you have to pay new car tax, japanese import vehicle tax, clear headlight tax, low emissions tax, gasoline engine tax, registration fees and road upkeep tax, 4 door tax, front disk brake tax, and no muffler bearings tax.

i have no idea how a sub $20k world car can become a $80k car. if i had $80k to spend on a car i would get a used AP2 and spend $20k on mods. i would invest the $40k i have left into my retirement fund.

That or he is the most gullible used car shopper in the world LOL High gas price hysteria is setting in here in the US so 8k will only buy you a really beat up used Fit right at the moment. 80K, now that is a totally different story.

Well if its $8k, I'd buy a FSVT, Euro package if possible. There are NO cars that cost $8k brand new, I think the cheapest car you can buy here is a Versa with the 6 speed stick, crank windows, no A/C or radio IIRC.

Now, for $80K....EVO MR for sure, great DD! The money left over could go towards snow tires/wheels and a couple mods to bring out the hidden hp/tq. Money left over would go in the bank, probably about $40k....pinch me, I'm dreaming!

1 - Fit
and 2 NSX's (one set up for the track, one for cruising)

That should cover $80K

No mistake base on today date. in fact, abt USD$82k + 1k insurance + if loan for 10 years = USD$98k ~ USD$100k to drive out on the road.
Our year insurance is from USD0.8k to 4k , if porchse, at least 5k per year. PLS note that USD98k only can drive 10 years only.

see for yrself, price might go up :

Uh... so, I take it not many people drive?

(Just read about Certificates of Entitlement... holy crap!)

My salary is about $5200/mo pretax (and pre-child-support) and I would be very hesitant to spend more than $20,000 on a car.

Are you talking USD or HongKong Dollar?

This is exchange rate from this website
XE: (USD/HKD) US Dollar to Hong Kong Dollar Rate

1.00 USD = 7.77420 HKD
If Fit is $80,000 how much do you pay for Mercedes? Lifetime Salary?

if base on population ratio, still at above average. always traffic jam here and there, that why need to control. If USD$80k can drive for life, i don't mind, but we can only drive for 10 years. that very sad.

1.00 Singapore dollar = .8050 USD.

Wikipedia* lists the following:

"Average vehicle pricing (March 2008)

All prices are in Singapore dollars.
Supermini : S$35,999 - S$56,500
Subcompact : S$56,400 - S$60,488
Compact : S$70,388 - S$80,000
Mid-size : S$90,000 - S$110,000
Full-size sedan : S$120,000 <"

*Yes, it's a wikisource, yada yada.
