Here is a solution:

DWD2 - Products

I'm probably going to have this done on my car. I've been spraying Lysol into the vents as a cheap temporary solution, but I think I'll just do this since I'd rather just get it done, especially since my car is about five years old now.

Brand new 2012 not three weeks old smelled like dead fish. I did the heat thru the vent trick
and run on fresh air mode instead of recirc, seems to have solved the problem.

Smell on Acceleration

Should I change the vent from recirc to outside air at the same time too? I've never done this before, but if the system is shut down with air trapped in the recirc mode, I do understand the issue.

What about the smell only happening on acceleration? It's there only for a few seconds then it's gone. Could this be some combustion byproduct or exhaust gas that's making it's way into the vent system?
Same here, ,my two cents worth: on acceleration there is almost no vacuum to hold any vent doors open or closed, have no idea how the FIT is setup as far as vent doors go, I'm talking old technology here, without vacuum reservoirs,or broken ones, good luck, JJ

I just purchased a 2012 Honda Fit and have the same problem with the rubbing alcohol smell. I live in Florida so always use the AC. Guess I'll take it to the dealers and see what they will advise. The smell gives me a headache.

My son-in-law said it could be some kind of chemical they spray on the hoses and the smell should go away after awhile. I still think I should have it checked so it's on record.

This moldy funky smelly socks smell comes from the AC condensor, not the vents. Turning the heat up does not help. It is a design flaw with the tiny AC unit. You have to get one of those cans of cleaner with the long hose that goes all the way to the condensor.

Mine smelled mildewy when new, but it's gone away now. When I had the problem, running the AC seemed to make the smell go away. Don't smell a thing anymore.

yah, i keep the a/c running at all times. no musty smell.

if it persists, you could have a blockage on the evap drain. would help to check it and clean it while you're doing your oil change.
