2007 nissan maxima vs honda fit
Hello this thread is open for talk about the maxima vs the fit. My co worker has no respect for the honda fit. He thinks he can walk all over it with his 2007 maxima se that he just bought. Here is the dirt and details. The dirt is that I am a hospital worker and this week I was called in for an emergency case durring the earlly hours. Just about 5 blocks from the hospital I am passed while driving in a 30 mph zone buy this maxima that is eventually probley clocked at 50 mph. I did not know it was my coworker. I found out later he was irritated that I was was driving casual. about 25-30 mph. Did I say he has no respect. He braged that his car has 255 hp. Here are the details. The 2007 nissan maxima SE weighs 3591 pounds. Horse power is 255@6500 rpm. the honda fit manual weighs 2432 with 109 hp @5800 rpm. The maxima comes in the blue corner at 14 horses per pound of metal and the Fit has 22 horses per pound of metal. This gives the Fit a win of 8 horses of power per pound of metal.
Did I make an error on the math? Help me on this one.
This is odd because I dont race or trash talk and neither does my co worker. what has gotten into us? Dont get me wrong Nissan is a great car and is worthy. But would you have ever thought it could add up like this?
I think this is a hot subject. Dont forget to rate rate this thread if it strikes you at all.

I think it will destroy also but do the math. I know there are other things that get you across the line beside horspower. I just divided the weight buy the horsepower. Plain and simple

Yes, but the anwer you get doing the math isn't in hp/lb, it's lbs/hp. 1 hp on the Fit needs to haul 22 lbs, while that same 1hp needs to move only 14 lbs for the Maxima. That means that the math says that the Maxima will have an easier time moving the weight around because there's more power on hand for each unit weight.....

Your "friend" sounds like a real jerk! Two completely different types of cars. I traded in a 2003 Altima SE with the same engine that the Maxima has in it. It had a AEM CAI and Stillen Exhaust. It was very fast, but gas mileage was not too good 19 City, 23-25 highway, driving speed limit. The VQ engine is rated one of the best engines in the world, but the build quality of Nissan's can't come close to Honda. I had to replace Struts in my car 3 separate times!

What flavor is that pie in your face?
Um, yeah, you made a math error, Jar-Jar.
Remember what it was you said about power-to-weight proportion? In the real world, it's exactly the opposite of that.
For Power: Maxima>Fit. Game, Set, Match.

Those aren't even in the same class, so a comparison is pointless! It sounds like someone has a small... you know, and is compensating with his 255HP. Just ask him how many miles per gallon he gets

Here's how i look at it, these 2 can't be compared in anything, why, simple they are in completely different class's, who care's what he drive's to be honest, he might be faster in his car, adn get to place's in less time, but who is going to be spending the most money in gas?

I really find this kind of thing hilarious.
My car is not too far from being worth about as much as the scraps it's made of. '94 Saturn SL1, mileage unknown but over 200xxx (odometer stopped at 177,xxx a year ago). Even before the horn and hazard lights quit working, and even before the dome light fell down and dangled by the wires, even before the hole in the muffler, the car was probably the least-impressive vehicle one could own.
Know what? It's paid off, it gets wicked good gas mileage, and before it decided to fall apart all in a 6 month span, it was in excellent shape and passed saftey/emissions tests with ease. I didn't even pay two large for a car that's ran faithfully with no major maintenance requirements and that has cost me pennies in gas and insurance compared to most. I'll be putting more down on the Fit than I paid total for this car.
Whenever someone decides to tell me what a peice of junk my car is, I have no issue reminding them of this. How much is your car payment and insurance? Really? I don't even pay a fifth of that for my insurance, and I get better gas mileage! I don't need a car to supplement my ego - I need a car to do what a car does, and a few extras thrown in is just icing on the cake.
For those that are modding their Fits - more power to you. I've seen a few small things I'd like to do based on what some of you have done- tint, new shoes, and perhaps an armrest if the OEM one doesn't make it across the pond in a timely fashion. As far as performance mods, that's well out of my expertise. I can change my own oil, check my own fluids, and rotate my own tires/change a flat. That's as good as it gets for me, but that's even better than most.
For me the Fit fills a need first, and want second, and for most people, that is exactly what this car will do. Even the modded fits I've seen here seem to double as daily drivers. I love the way it looks, the way it handles, and the extras it has that makes it, especially on the interior, feel superior to an economy car, but I'd be kidding myself to expect performance that is way out of it's class.

I am the previous owner of a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE...no way is a stock Honda Fit going to beat it in a stoplight race. It's simply 2 different classes of cars. Hell, my supercharged 2003 Nissan Xterra should be able to take off on a Honda Fit.
If anything, the Honda Fit draws less attention than the Nissan Maxima from those pesky Ford Crown Vics with lights and sirens on them .
