When did your Fit have its first Oil Change?
#141
I called at just before 3,000 and talked to the service guy about sythetic over regular oil. He told me that it was recomended that I wait until at leat 5,000 miles or until the car told me to fix it.
I went in at a little over 5,000 miles, I went with normal stock oil as I am an average driver. i might switch up if I can find any hard proof that it will do ME any good. One note though, make sure they reset your oil meter, i notate all my maintinance and the dealer missed that, I didn't even get out of the lot and they obviously switched it. It's not that I couldn't do it, it's more a matter that I paid for the full service and I want to keep them up to par on my service.

you dont really need to change it at 3000 miles all the time. i had a tacoma and the manuel says you can change it at 7000 if you drive it normally but 5000 if you drive it hard or if you have a factory turbo. i think oil companies tell us to change it at 3000 so they can sell, and they did that so well that now eveyone believes it's 3000/oil change... im not saying theres anything wrong with cahnging the oil regularly at 3000 but on the first oil change i will change mine at 5000 because they specificaly said so, and i trust them because they are highly skilled engineers and smarter than a Mr. know-it-all

I wonder if my car will start leaking oil like my first car... It leaked a quart a month... a very steady pace... always had new oil in the car... hehe... I did have to get the oil filter changed every now and then tho.

It took 7,500 miles before I got to 30% oil life. Service Dept. said to rely on the maintenance minder and that I could wait all the way down to 10%, but I did not want to go any longer without an oil change. However, they put a sticker on the car telling me to bring it back after 3,000 miles.

I'm sure others will disagree.

My oil life said 30% at 5000-ish miles. This was in the last week of August (after about 4 months of driving it). My boyfriend took it in for me (as a surprise favor, aw!!) at my original dealership. The sticker they put on my window says to bring it in again after another 5000.

I don't get the dealers -- first I was told to bring my Fit in for the first oil change when the Maintenance Minder said 10% -- no later than at 5%. At 7,400 miles it was still at 30%. Took it in because I was feeling nervous about letting it go any longer. They slapped a sticker on telling me to bring it back after another 3,000 miles. Annie took hers in at 5,000 miles and that dealer said to bring it in after another 5,000. What gives? My Fit just passed 10,000 miles today. According to my dealer, it's due in another 400 miles for another oil change. Maintenance minder says oil life is 70%.

Mine light came on today showing 15%. 6,517 miles. Scheduled a service appointment for Monday after work.
When I bought the car and talked to the service department they said to wait for the light to come on that it could be anywhere from 5,000 to 7,500 miles depending on driving conditions and habits. And added that it should not be changed sooner than that because of something Honda put in the oil to break the engine in. So that's what I've done.
They also said that they use a synthetic blend oil when they change the oil. I'll just go with that until the next service and will decide then if I want to change it my self or have them do it. But at 6,000 miles between oil changes and only about $30 it's not a bad deal having them do it.

so i'm not into cars that much but i guess i've been persuaded into believing that i needed a oil change every 3000 miles. today i saw this article
The-3-000-Mile-Oil-Change-Myth- Yahoo! Autos Article Page
which says we don't need to do it every 3000.
has anyone read anything in their manual about getting an oil change after X miles?

for me, typically dino oil is 7500miles or 6months. synthetic is 10k miles
or 12months which ever comes first.
but for the FitS i just followed the onboard reminder. once i start using
Mobil1 im going to switch to 10k miles or 12months.

I'm sorry your dealer is retarded if that is what he thinks. Coating?

Good to know. I plan on using Synthetic in my Fit.
I use Synthetic in all of my vehicles.
One of my old school friend's dad worked for Mobil and was part of the Mobil1 1,000,000 mile engine project and he swears first hand that synth works.
I'm sold.

Coating's probably not the best word to use, but it is clearly stated on the Honda Owner link site that all Honda's have a special break-in blend of oil w/ special additives that should not be changed out until the first recommended oil change. It not BS what he's saying, just not worded well.
