If your mileage isn't good at all. Perhaps it has something to do with your driving style?

So it seems most people are getting their worst mileage on the third tank...which usually covers the end of the break-in peruiod (600 miles). It appears after about 1000 or 1200 miles the average MPG increases a bit. I can't wait for that

Ah... NO. I drive very conservatively. I try to shift at 3k and seldom ever go above 4k. Mileage sucks because I drive in AT in mostly stop and go situations. The fit is no race car so I drive it the way its suppose to be driven, nice and easy.

DITTO! thanks nexus. I'm not the only one they are misunderstanding. My Fit is my casual car. The ones I drive fast are the EF and DC. that's why i have those. RAWR!

Worst 31 MPG (almost zero highway)

Best 35 MPG (almost all highway)

I'm a bit disappointed in the fuel economy in the Fit, seeing as how my 13 year old Mazda MX-3 just got 28 MPG on the last fill up, with little to no highway driving.

Hopefully it will get better after break in. Going to have the first oil change tomorrow.

Yeah, I agree that I'm disappointed. If the window sticker said 27/31 I wouldn't have been so enthusiastic about buying this car. I can see the mileage going up a bit after I break the car in completely, but even still, it can't go up THAT much.

Wow after seeing these posts, I must be really light footed- I am averaging 37mpg combined driving after over 2500 miles (60%fwy/40%city). Highest is 40mpg, lowest is 35mpg.

I drive a 5MT Sport with 32psi in all tires. Not sure how much the HFP muffler or 10.5 pound rims affected the gas mileage though.

Best - 30.4
Worst - 27.6

Not bad. And I haven't had the opportunity to do much highway driving since I got the Fit. My driving is all in town. I'm hoping to get around 31-32 once I get it out on the highway.

Well that 24mpg was only 1 time and hope not too see that again I have about 1500 miles now and average probable 27mpg all city driving. I usually fill up right when it hits the E. I know I know its bad but when the gas light turns on its usually at 230 so I try to milk it. Im gonna try to stop doing that, the other day I was telling my wife about how Im not getting the mpg Im suppose to be getting. She was like at least you dont have to put 14 gallons of gas... I started laughing...

Oh and In the mornings I usually wait for the cold temp light to dissappear before I drive off.

I just returned from a 2300 mile trip. Worst 33.2 mpg: stop and go traffic snarls. Best: 38.7 mpg between southern Kentucky and Ashville, NC.
Crazy but the mountain stretches garnered the best mpg! I run with a CB and radar detector and generally move at 85 mph. The MT motor really spins in this range. Despite that fact I'd still say the MT versions are much more frugal. I did not notice any mpg bonus or performance enhancements after switching to synth-oil.

>>I baby mine, dont rev past 3500. next suggestion?

Get a locking gas cap. Have heard some civics were helped by resetting the computer, disconnect battery, like resetting for cvt. Also, shut off the motor at lights, like they do in Japan. GL

Starting an engine uses about as much gas as driving the car at highway speeds for a minute. Don't shut off the motor at lights unless you're going to be there for longer than a few minutes. It causes abnormal heat expansion and contraction of the exhaust pipes, which leads to premature cracking and rust (condensation in the pipes from rapid cooling and heating cycles). Just leave it on unless you're in a lengthy traffic jam.

I would like to know exactly what the break even time is for the fit, 45 seconds, a minute and a half. Some of the lights are better than three minutes. Besides cold start, idle is the least efficient mode in a gas motor. I turn it off when I can, never at lights, often at the bank, coffee and school pick up loop etc.

Base MT
Lowest: 26 (2nd tank)
Best: 32ish
Average: 30

Car is fully broken in now, about 3k. I was expecting about 33+ but am now accepting that it will just average around 30. I drive normally, no jackrabbits or anything. 50-50 city/freeway, no AC so much yet. It is what it is I guess, kinda disappointed since my 85 wagovan got 35+ as did my 92 hatchback vx.
