Gas Tank Size & Questions/Criticisms
I'm curious to know how much fuel people can actually put into the tank (as opposed to the stated size)? Just wondering if the residual would be in addition to the specs (i.e. 10.8 gallons/41 litres), or if that size includes any residual...so you could only put, say, 9.5 gallons/38 litres in at most?
What have the 'real world' experiences been?
Thanks!

The 2nd - about 20 miles of interstate.
The 3rd was shortly after the light came on.
I'm pondering carrying a 1-gallon gas can (can? they're plastic these days!!) with me and putting it in after it "sputters" then driving to a gas station to see what it'll hold!!

I wish the tank was a little bigger. I have a long commute and I stop at the gas pump too frequently -- my only complaint about the Fit. I estimated that my Accord had an extra 2 gal. beyond the stated capacity, for a total of 13.9. Its mpg when old was about 26-27, so the mpg/tank capacity ratio for the Fit vs. the Accord results in my stopping for fuel at about the same frequency for both.

Gas tank size is 10.8 gallons. There is no "reserve tank". There is no way you could get 12 plus gallons in the tank. Since your the only one reporting this, it must be only you so there is a problem with the gas station you are going to. I called Honda. They assured me there gas tank only holds 10.8 gallons, with the fuel neck it could hold maybe a quart more.

i am kinda glad to know, the actually capacity of the tank size is a little bigger than the official one. that means i can probably drive a bit farther.
good news for me on the mpg, it is also a little bit more than the official estimates. which means less money for more miles.
i am happy that i got my fit!

i have filled way over 10.8 gallons...11.2, 11.5, 11.8...when i filled it to 11.2 i drove for nine days from F to E and got 321 miles from that full tank...i averaged about 35 miles per gallon

Just to be clear -- it does take a very long time to fill the car "all the way" up. The last couple of gallons go in very slowly. I have only been doing it because I want accurate mileage calculations and a long highway range.
I just drove my 5MT Storm Sport 1300 miles with two on-the road station stops. The stops were 11.31 gal. / 424 miles and 11.18 gal. / 447 miles. Return home and the fill was 10.4 gal for 413 miles. A good, solid 39 mpg for the trip in mixed mountain and interstate driving (80 mph) and I have NEVER seen the low fuel light come on!
