just wanting to celebrate!
so i went out cycling yesterday. folded down the rear seats, put down a blanket, snuggled my bike in the back, and drove on up into the hills. fitting the bike in was almost no problem (although i really wish there was a good way to secure it). just wanted to post it here in celebration, and also to see if anyone had a better way to secure their bikes in the back.

Cool! Don't forget there are tie-down loops in the back, so you could always bungee-cord the bike to the loops to secure it. That, or you could use the child-seat hooks in the ceiling, too.

Have a look at this Thule bike clamp, hopefully your bike/s have quick release front wheels, with the Thule clamp attached to a piece of wood the width of the car,and mounted high enough so your chainwheelclears the carpet, this should do the trick.I intend to try it when my Fit arrives this week.

cool, thanks. yeah, i was going to head to home depot today and see if they have anything i can mount one of those to. i would do wood, but i don't want to get the shavings all over the car. but then i guess i could always just use a tarp or something. thanks for the info, everyone!
p.s. vote on a license plate slogan if you want one!!

Yes, the "tall mode" is terrific for bikes. With the vertical storage, no need to remove water bottles and bike doesn't need to go on top of anything else and you still have all the area in the back for accessories and other stuff. This car was MADE for bikers!!
As for securing the bike, I usually do the following. I have a road bike. With the front wheel removed, I put in the rear of the bike first with the wheel next to the front seat and then turn the handlebar slightly and hook one of the brake levers over the raised rear seat bottom. This secures things nicely for the short drives I usually do, but guess you could also add a bungee cord for longer trips.
