Schmack....

My fit didn't last long...

It had 304 miles on it (still had the gas from the dealer in it, they filled it up as a bonus thing, we just got back from a trip to the airport). It got hit from the front by a subaru WRX (The round headlight one) at about 40-45 MPH (according to the marks left). slight offset to the drivers side. I was in the passenger seat, and my wife was in the drivers seat. We stopped at a 2 way stop and she had just cleared herself and slammed on the brakes. I thought she just saw someone coming from the side and just stopped to let them by (I was reading a book at the time), but she saw this car flying towards the stop sign. About a second later the air bags popped, then a *really* loud bang, and the car went what felt like airborne. At first I thought the airbags had popped accidentally and had quite a bit of momentum to propel us onto the curb (who knows why?), then I saw the suebee in front of us (we ended up on the curb backwards like we were trying to pull out of a driveway, he ended up on the hard median). Obviously the airbags did their trick. they came out instantaniously, white powder everywhere, and they stink!

The damage on the fit, the hood ended up in an upside down V crushing the windsheild the front wheels were not moveable, both front doors needed to be forced open (really crushing the drivers side door), but we were able to get out under our own power (no emergency personell needed).

Long story short everyone is okay, the fit is dead, the suebee will live to see another day (although his parents should take it away and give him a yugo).

The kid in the other car ended up with a broken leg (I didn't care which one...). He was changing the channels on the radio station while talking on the phone, smoking... did I mention it was a stick? he didn't even touch the brakes...

Overall I think I'll get another fit... it did really well under the circumstances. The air bags worked fine. I don't actually remember "hitting" them, but that's the point.

So glad that that everyone was alright...You should go see a doctor even though you don't feel anything.

He's the only one with the tickets (from what I understand, failure to yeild, speeding, and wreckless driving).

Already went, my wife has had a collapsed disk in the past (still does in fact), So we both went, especially since it's covered by his insurance. No problems that they could see on (or in) her, and they did a nice workup on me (My blood pressure was normal for once, but not enough O2 in my blood).

Oh, I have a scratch on my arm where a peice of plastic hit... not sure where it came from tho...

Trust me, one is enough... he was in enough pain, even dropped his cherry on his leather seat, he wouldn't stop complaining, freaking spoiled brat. If I broke the other one, he just would have complained more.

wow dude that sucks!
Kinda like my story but yours is much worse.
Had an 04' AerioSX with only 10k miles on it and hadn't made my first payment. On the freeway I was hit by an 18wheeler. It was totaled so I found the Fit and here Iam! hehe, I am really sorry to hear of your loss man and glad you and your wife are all safe and sound, tell us what you get next.

You should of kicked that kid in the leg btw..

Glad you're okay! This speaks a lot towards the Fit's safety, and I'm glad your car could sacrifice itself to save you and your wife.

Wow, I'm glad to hear you're OK.
I've never had an airbag go off, and I'm dreading it if they ever do.

Wow, again, glad that you two are alright. Looks like the Fit's 5 star crash rating is the real deal!

Ok, good, nothing serious then. I hope you have enough O2 now!

Oh man, I'm so sorry. I'm glad you and your wife are OK. I really feel bad for you. I can't imagine how I would feel if that happened to my new Fit. It's encouraging to hear the aibags worked well. I hope your insurance gives you enough money to replace the Fit.

Thanks,

Luckily my insurance has nothing to do with it... it's all on his [parents] insurance.

to me, it says a lot that you just got smacked to the point of airbags and you're ready for another fit. i think it's great that our little car held up so well when faced with spoiled teenagers.

glad you're ok.
