Frame Number - sliding vent door

I have a 1-year old 2009 Fit that just turned 15K. I had to replace the windhsield that was cracked from highway pebble. In looking at the replacement job, I noticed a narrow horizontal sliding door under the hood in the plastic jacket around the windshield wipers with the words Frame Number in large letters. It looks to be a vent door, which makes me wonder if that should be opened in the winter to allow warm engine air to hit the windshield.

More mysteriously, what does Frame Number indicate? Sliding the door does not reveal a number. Strange.

You should see the VIN for your car. Nothing to do with anything else.
