Ideas for fitting a 2008 cargo-area cover in a 2009 model?

I prefer the window-shade style ("tounneau") cargo-area cover, but the cover offered for the 2009 is the hard kind. I'm wondering whether there's any way I might be able to rig things so that a 2008 cover would fit in my 2009 Sport. I can tell from the installation instructions from bernardiparts.com (Honda Cargo Cover (Fit) - Bernardi Honda Parts and Accessories) that my car doesn't have the recesses that the 2008 cover fits into, so it would take some creativity. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

I accidently got an old-style cover when the parts dept. picked the wrong box. I also like the retractable tonneau-style cover and since I had it home for the night, I figured I might as well bring it out and see if it looked adaptable.

Well....it doesn't look like it can be done easily or with a promise of good results. If I recall, it was way too narrow, so you would have to come up with a way to mount the body of it behind the rear seat, then locations to hitch it to - which would both require attaching something to the sides, plus some sort of boot/masking to cover the gap on the sides. Maybe if you're better at fabricating than I am you could do it, but I knew that whatever solution I attempted would look like a hack...if it even worked at all.

Thanks, jzerocsk. I won't bother trying. (I have no fabricating skills at all.)

I used to have the hard style cargo cover on my Toyota Wagon, then got a Subaru with the retractable cover--the retractable cover, while easy to use, is useless for placing things on. The 09-10 Fits' hard style cover can be used for extra storage if you undo the elastic side pieces.
