Methanol bad for Fit (and all Hondas)
I actually read through the owners manual of my new Fit, and noticed that while Ethanol mix gas is OK and MTBE additive is OK (no way around this one in California), Methanol is not to be used in the Fit.
Now this could be a problem in the future since there has been talks of replacing the toxic, birth defect causing MTBE with Methanol instead.
Methanol may be much more environmentally friendly, but it is certainly not Fit friendly. Methanol is quite corrosive, even to aluminum, which Honda engines are often made out of.
With Hondas often lasting more than 10 years, I wonder if we have anything to worry about?

Here in Mass they have just switched from gas MBTE to gas Ethanol mix. Ethanol is made from corn and as far as I can tell it's what they are going to be going to in most the country for a fuel mixture. Where are they switching to Methanol?
