1. needs an arm rest
2. black seats pick up lint like no other
3. gas tank doesn't lock
4. always needs to be wased to look clean (i have a black sport)
5. I always scuff up my door panel ( where the speaker is housed) every time i get out of the car, i don't know if i'm retarded or ust used to getting out of my old car (99' jeep grand cherokee)

other than that I love my baby!

James Bizzle,

I really enjoyed your post and I mean no disrespect but your items #2,4 & 5 are not about the Fit but YOU!

I think the one I enjoyed the most is #4. "The Fit needs to be washed to look clean!" - Funny thing about that, so does mine. The other thing I don't like is immediately after I drive my clean washed the Fit off into the street we almost always find water in the road and the Fit gets dirty all over again. How come Honda didn't design the Fit better? LMAO

Item #5 - unless your 6' 6" + open the door completely before entering or leaving so that you don't hit the door panel. I'm 6' and the Fit is so much easier to get out of than my last car , a Mercedes C240.

#2 & 4 are both caused by the color black. Black shows dirt worse than most other colors because there is more contrast between black and lint or dirt, so it is more visable.

I bought a Zeta arm rest and a Honda locking gas cap. Easy fixes. Glad you love your Fit, so do I.

Three problems fixed with one product. Seat was too low for my wife: No lumbar support; No side bolsters on seat to keep you from sliding when cornering sharply. An after market leather seat cushion which covers the entire seat provided all the features necesary to correct the baseline seat deficiencies. Also put one on the passenger seat.

OrangeBlossom: how about starting a new thread on the seat cushion- with a picture.

I've read in the past that adding a seat cover will potentially have an effect on the airbags. I'm no car afficainado, but I am curious about the realities of this.

Glad you found a fix for your Fit issues.

I too wondered if it blocked the deployment of the seat mounted airbags.

Moving into a fit from an '87 volkswagon fox I was surprised at the lack of visiblity whilst headchecking to change lanes because of the rear side roof support.

In retrospect my old style sedan had darn good visibility when i'd crank my head around. I'm getting used to relying on the mirrors more now though.

A visiblity check is the one thing i feel i missed out on getting a feel for by skipping the test-drive in order to get the car quickly.

Drawbacks

Although my primary complaint, and the only major one, is the small gas tank, now that the odometer miles are up above 9,000, I'm getting better mpg, and not stopping at the gas station as often despite my long commute.

I'd read complaints on the Forum about the pillar between the windows being a blind spot. I hadn't been bothered much, but now I notice that a vehicle sitting in just the right spot is really blocked by that pillar and I have to turn my head to double check. This came to my attention because a couple of vehicles slowed up and hung in that blind spot to check out my Fit! I almost missed seeing a black SUV cruising in the dark next to me, where I couldn't pick up on his headlights or tail lights. The blind spot isn't as bad as my Accord wagon's, though, and I've readjusted the Fit's side mirror to see if it helps.

It may help if you can find a couple of those convex mirrors to stick onto the Fit so that you have better side visibility. The rear head restraints are also removable if you don't have any rear passengers. The beginning prob with me was the steering. I am not used to such precise steering and took some getting used to.

Thanks for the ideas docjim! I'll think about a new mirror or two if i don't keep on getting used to depending on them.

And, i hardly ever have passengers in the rear... I'll pop the head restraints... then i'll see the paper license on one side, but I should get my real plates soon!

But yes there will still be a blind spot... FondaFit, Ouch at the potential of crunching into an admirer!! I think i'm just getting used to having a wagon, or as i like to think of it, a micro mini van.

Welcome to the Forum, WillMorgan! Actually I found the Fit because I complained to the salesman/internet manager about Honda no longer making a wagon, at least not in the U.S. My 11 year old Accord wagon was giving out and I was doing some serious car searching. (I'd owned a Civic wagon before that.) He suggested I check out the Fit on the Honda website. It was the Forum that got me through those agonizing weeks waiting for delivery!

Just back from a quick solo drive from the San Francisco area to Seattle & back - mostly on I-5 but some back roads. One big problem (that might be solved with software?) is shifting from D to S always going into 3rd gear. While I have not actually redlined doing this I think it would be better to stay in the gear you are driving at (5th or 4th,) then use the paddle shift up or down.

I also need to adjust those low beams up a bit - nighttime through the Shasta Mountain area was a bit too dark!

Other than that, it was a great trip, good milage and not uncomfortable at all...

yes it would have been nice if besides the Insight electric AC you wouldn't have to go down two (2) gears : 5th to 3rd... I did it the other day at too much highway speed and the computer did NOT click in... and I got a big "thunK" from the transaxle. Oops!

Things I dislike:

Having to wait way way way too long.
Very high dealer mark up in some regions (like mine).
Only 3 to 5 being delivered per month per dealership.
Lack of base Fits and lack of manual transmission (at least in my area)
Dealing with salesman that don't care in a market where there is high buyer demand.

Design stuff missing:
Dead Pedal
Option for center foldable storage armrest (I know about aftermarket)
Option for traction or stability control
Option for NAV and bluetooth
Option for power seat for the driver.
Option for CVT transmission
Option for leather seats or leather cloth combo. (I know it's not a luxury car).
Factory option for a high performance 2 liter or turbo version with some 18" wheels and brembo brakes front and rear- it can be the Fit Si

I'm just barely over 500 miles and here's my list of "I wish it had it":

1. I agree with people saying the stereo is too easy to turn off when you're just adjusting the volume.

2. coin compartment. Most Hondas/Acuras have this. No I don't mean the JDM style holder, but an actually tray that closes. You'd be surprised the number of times kids break into your car for those two quarters if they are visible when parked downtown.

3. no dead peddle. Same reason as everybody else

4. map lights. At night it's hard to see things up front, even the dome light doesn't help.

5. no heated mirror. ok, I got used to having them in my cars, they make a big deference in the rain as well as on frosty morning.

6. gas tank doesn't lock. I fixed that with a locking gas cap, but would have been better to be able to pull a lever to open it like on most Hondas.

7. no variable settings on front wipers, and rear wiper only has one speed (although I'm sort of used to that because even my RSX only has 1 speed on the rear wiper)

Other Nit picks
- steering wheel on the Sport could be thicker and substantial
- controls for the stereo on the steering wheel would've been nice
- larger gas tank would be nice
- moonroof option

None of these are really deal breakers... because if they were, I would've gotten a Versa which has nearly everything on this list. The other aspect of the car makes up for these minor short-comings.

I got a good deal on the car and the cargo cover + all-weather mats were free; otherwise I'd complain about the dealer price gouging too.

No map lights: so I got an illuminated GPS iWay with a 4gb hdd in it...
I want a locking glove compartment too!
Got a tonnaeu cover (?sp) for the rear and it helps.

"Map lights" isn't just for maps. I already have a Garmin GPS. At night (which is every time I climb into the car in the winter) you can't see anythign in front of you.

I guess I'll have to do the JDM console mod.
