What is wrong with a car enthusiast driving a Fit?

My 14 year old talked me into buying a 2008 Fit Sport stick , Did a little work to it , cold air intake , throttle controller , Ingalls Stiffy , my own custom exhaust. .....I have a 1957 Chevy that runs low tens....I build Harley Davidsons....and I look the part !!!! I LOVE MY FIT....fun as hell to drive plus when people see a 48 year old guy get out of it the look on everyones face is priceless. Would not trade it for the world..........next...K20 swap

The Enthusiast's Car
I drive my Fit "spiritedly and with elan"...when I enter a 360 degree ramp onto the interstate w/ a posted limit of 35 mph, and I'm doing a confident 60 mph w/ no drama, and the person in the Maxima/BMW/MINI causes me to slow down as they creep along at 25 mph...It makes me think: why are these people driving "enthusiast" type cars so timidly??? Maybe it's not the car, but the person...just my 0.02 worth!
'07 VBP Sport 5MT w/ minor appearance & comfort mods!!
BTW: From time to time, as I'm zipping along, I have this "insane" grin of enjoyment that I can't seem to get rid of!!

I think people are mistaking status cars with what a true driving enthusiast would own for the shear pleasure of driving..... A driving enthusiast is unlikely to add high dollar bling items to change the image of their car, favoring instead to perform modifications that are going to add to the pleasure of the driving experience..... A car that is inexpensive and performs well will always have a following, but taste in styling gimmicks come and go.

If the person in question had to ask, then he's obviously not an enthusiast. Sounds like a friend I know who expresses his envy by denigrating the objects of his desire.
I was surprised by an obnoxious coworker who asked me about my new car. "I thought you had better taste than that," she said. I thought she was joking, but no--she genuinely couldn't understand why anyone would want my car.
Another coworker chimed in to say "Actually the Fit is considered a fun-to-drive car by enthusiasts". She rolled her eyes and said, "Whatever".
It's funny because just a week before I was congratulating her on her purchase of a 2006 Malibu. As an enthusiast (and an informed consumer), I consider the Malibu to be a POS--but I didn't say that because I'm nice enough to recognize the enthusiasm others have for their cars --even if its a Malibu! I'm the first person she approaches with car-related questions because she's knows I'm a gearhead/car geek. And she tends to have a lot of questions because she buys unreliable POS cars that always have problems.
Edited to add: You know this is akin to telling parents that their newborn baby is ugly and you don't think they should keep it. It's rude.
Some people just need a nice big can of shut the F--k up.

I had gone 21 years without a speeding ticket and got one just at the top of 3rd gear.... 76 in a 60.... That was on an up hill stretch on a Farm to Market road that I normally would have been driving at a higher speed on.... This is a car that begs you to speed up for approaching curves and keep accelerating all the way through it.....

hahahahaha it so does beg to power through turns... i scared the poop out of a friend on an entrance ramp.... then i had to to slow down cause of some SUV going 2 mph.... total boner killer...- no homo

- Michael Schumacher probably said that when he was working for Ferrari, which is owned by guess who, yes that's right -- Fiat
- Fiat makes some pretty sporty cars such as the Bravo that are closer in size to an Accord than a Fit

ok so I was given some garbage today from a moron who thinks its not ok for a car enthusiast such as my self to drive the Fit... because according to him the Fit sucks, and if I were so into cars i would not drive such a piece of crap... so what I am looking for is some reasons why a car enthusiast WOULD drive a Fit... i have thought of the following so far...practical, well made, fun to drive, handles very well, and made every car authorities top 10 list when it came out? and we can't forget... amazing MPGs....
What you drive is not as important as what you do with your drive. Does he race? I mean actually race in an acknowledged race program ?
Does he drive his car like knows how to drive it ? Show his driving school certificate ?
Does he outfit his car in a professional manner where handling is king, not appearance ?
And does he know anything about the physics of cars ?
Are is all he knows is goofy looks are cool ?
Actually all of the above are correct; the more you can score the higher your enthusiast rating.cheers.

my brother commenting "shouldn't you slow it down a bit?" before i was out of the first section of the curve was priceless

"shouldn't you slow it down a bit?" I have heard that comment followed by screams from burly masculine men..... I am really fond of children that always say " go faster" or "do it again"..... No one over 30 will ride with me willingly unless drunk since I installed the super charger except for my wife.... She falls asleep at 100 MPH + on the back of a motorcycle.

Actually the Malibu (and the Ford Fusion) rate highly for driver friendliness and reliability (in their class). Both these cars are the high points in the dismal "American made" lineup.

Not for a car enthusiast, eh.

This is my 1st post and I'm not a FIT owner (though I am looking at the car as one option when it's time to purchase something new later this year).
I think people look down their noses at cars they consider 'econoboxes.' Even if the econobox performs well, many (perhaps most) people look at a car's styling and it's reputation and cost and image (like BMW and Mercedes are always considered wonderful luxury cars, etc).
There's no getting around the fact that the FIT is the least expensive model in the Honda lineup AND Honda is not considered a high-end elitest car company like the other companies (BMW, et. al) are. That's just the way it is.
The Fit is a little car that can carry a lot and isn't a luxurious vehicle by anyone's standards. People judge based on level of luxury, image, and smoothness of ride, more than anything, which is why they probably look down their noses at a FIT. Plus, people often value what they either can't afford or have to sacrifice a lot to be able to have. A Fit is a relatively affordable car for the masses. People who care more about image don't want an economy car almost everyone can (afford to) own.
A driving enthusiast cares about different things--the feel of the car, the performance they can get, the way it feels when shifting, the feel of the road, etc. A car enthusiast probably isn't as concerned with the creature comforts and whisper quiet interior because they would consider that removing them from the feel of the road.
Anyway, that's my analysis on this.
I'm hoping there will be a hybrid Fit come 2011. That would be a very interesting car, I think.

Anyone remember the true story of Schumi taking over driving duties from a cabbie? It's what you do with your equipment that counts
