My 1970 Honda N600 had a midship fuel tank, a location that I have always felt was good for safety reasons. The filler was just behind the driver's door, a location that isn't practical with the Fit's 4-door layout.

There isn't a lot of open discussion about what it took Honda to achieve the Magic Seats, but the circuitous routing is one clear accomodation.

Perhaps more seriously are the footroom issues related to the tank location, especially rear footroom.

I personally find rear footroom to be totally adequate (in the rare case I'm in the back) but I really used to find the inability to tuck your foot up under the front seats to be super annoying. That is absolutely a product of the tank location.

I am not a mechanic or engine specialist but doesn't the fuel tank have its pressure lowered when it is in use? Perhaps it sucks the fuel up the pipe leading from the nozzle hole. Just a guess.

I'd almost consider leaving my spare home for that extra storage, but they I do I'll have a blowout and be pissed at myself for leaving it!

As for fuel troubles, it seems all those links are from people abusing their tanks...that can happen on any car and is not unique to the fuel path.

Though I am also interested in just how the filler runs.
there's no spare tire in the well but it has a big piece of hard foam with sections cut out of it for the tire repair kit/air canister.
