Alrighty, the update I promised...

Per my Honda friend (Service and Parts Manager for 5+ years)...

The Fits do not come with a tool tray (the styrofoam thing we've been talking about). Nor do the ones from the FG (Newer civic coupes) fit in the spare tire of the fit. Roundness, they are ok but in height, they are too high, not allowing the false floor to sit flat. He personally tested this today.

Sooo, I'm not sure why there was a foam tray in one of the Fit's and/or where or which vehicle it may have come from.

But, that should settle at least part of the argument...I hope.

I don't know whether you saw this or not (earlier in this thread), but I'll post the link again, for argument sake. If this doesn't settle what he's possibly talking about then he must have dreamed the styrofoam tray:

YouTube - 2009 Honda Fit DX (Canadian Base Model) Exterior/Interior

The name of the vid says it all. One possible form of proof the OP isn't losing his mind. Maybe someone could have gotten their hands on one at the dealership?

So, did the Fit you saw with the "tool tray" have a spare tire or not?

i have no idea if there is a spare under it or not. when the salesman showed it to me, i did not bother asking where the spare was.
my inquiry is due to the fact that it was there when i test drove the car, that is all. unfortunately, the car is now sold and i have no way to verify this.
thanks
