Alrighty, the update I promised...
Per my Honda friend (Service and Parts Manager for 5+ years)...
The Fits do not come with a tool tray (the styrofoam thing we've been talking about). Nor do the ones from the FG (Newer civic coupes) fit in the spare tire of the fit. Roundness, they are ok but in height, they are too high, not allowing the false floor to sit flat. He personally tested this today.
Sooo, I'm not sure why there was a foam tray in one of the Fit's and/or where or which vehicle it may have come from.
But, that should settle at least part of the argument...I hope.

The name of the vid says it all. One possible form of proof the OP isn't losing his mind. Maybe someone could have gotten their hands on one at the dealership?

my inquiry is due to the fact that it was there when i test drove the car, that is all. unfortunately, the car is now sold and i have no way to verify this.
