Potential Buyer Q
I'm looking around at cars and I kinda like the Fit. I've always liked small cars for some reason. But looking through the specs I have one question. The cargo capacity is listed as 20 cubic feet. The '10 Civic is listed at 12 cubic feet. I currently have an '03 Civic and I assume the trunk is about the same as the '10 model. Is the trunk of the Fit really bigger than the Civic? Or are they just doing some creative math to come up with the 20 cubic feet? Of course I'll check it out in person, just wondered if you had any thoughts.
Thanks!
Thanks!

The Fit's a hatchback, small wagon, whatever. Anyway (just ran down to the garage. ooo cold!) it's 2' deep, 40 inches wide and 34 inches high not counting nooks and crannies that's 18.8 cubic feet so 20 cubic feet isn't too much of a stretch.
But it would look silly loaded up that way.
Folding down part of the rear seat it has room for everything and 3 people comfortably. You could pack a horse.

Ah man, you didn't have to do that, but I do appreciate it. I guess what I'll need to do is take the usual blend of weekend luggage and see if it reasonably "fits". I fear the trunk won't work out for what I need - family of four that packs a reasonable amount of stuff for weekend getaways. But I'll give it a shot.
Thanks again!

Depends on if it's male or female reasonable. If you do squishy luggage it should work.
The in laws came down for the yearly visit on their way to the winter condo with steamer trunks. The 3 of us and all their damn luggage fit easily. But it was hard sided; had to fold down one of the rear seats. Could've fit more luggage but another person would've been awkward. I was impressed it handled the weight without bottoming out or wallowing.

Make sure the back seat seatbacks are latched in the most upright position, and not the slightly more reclined position, to maximize space behind the rear seats. See this thread for more info:

I'm sure the apparent difference in storage owes quite a bit to measuring the height all the way to the roof.
That said, this was a key concern for me, and when I popped the hatch open in the showroom I was surprised how big it was. It will not be as wide as the Civic's due to the wheel wells intruding on the space, but it should be comparable in depth, and of course even if you measure only to the top of the back seat, it's still a taller space.

you can fit more boxy bulky stuff in the Fit without trying. on the civic you have to use some acrobatics which usually includes holding the box on the roof with one hand and foot while the other hand and foot drives the car.
