Please Share your Anti-Theft ideas.

If this is a duplicate thread, please point me out to an existing one.

I just bought a new FIT and looking for ways to protect it from LA thieves.

Does anyone use steering wheel locks? If no, why?

Lo Jack, worth it? Does installing aftermarket alarm void the warranty?

I use wheel locks, is it true the wheel still get stolen even with locks?

Steering wheel locks work. Lo jack is worth it if u have a car that can get stolen real easy, but the fits arent too easy to steal. Lock ur steering wheel wen u leave ur car. Yes people can still steal ur wheels with wheel lock but it will make it harder for them to steal. Just do watever u can to make it as hard as they can to steal.

Thanks for the reply. Have there been any reports of members' cars being stolen? Especially in SoCal area...?

The Fit does have the immobilizer, though I don't know how long it takes to kick in if someone manages to hotwire the thing. For my last car it took 5 seconds.

Though my anti-theft device is a manual transmission. Hardly anyone down here knows how to run one.

the best anti-theft advice my dad gave me was, "don't put shit on your car that people would want to steal and maybe you'll stop being a little girl about where you park all the time." i <3 my dad..

That might be a pretty good anti-theft device, at that. One more reason to drive a manual.

Its mostly common sense when it comes to theft protection, ie. park in well lit areas, lock your doors, don't leave anthing tempting in plain sight, if you have an alarm use it. Use locking wheel nuts, yeah the can still get them off but if the car next to you doesn't have wheel locks, they may skip your car over. You have to realize that if a thief wants your car bad enough they'll get it, even if you have an immobilizer they can still tow it away.

I've posted this before - if your car is parked outside and not too far from your bedroom - using a baby monitor hidden in the car will work. You can hear if anyone is messing around - breaking glass, attempting to get into your doors. Just remember never to drop or lose your keys. Happened to my friend Christian and his VW GTI was taken and set on fire out in the woods.

i have a clifford G5 with tilt sensors and never leave any valuables or anything in plain sight.

the trend now is to just tow your car and they dont even need to break in right on the spot.

...and when you come out of the store and find your parking spot empty you shoot the spot where your car was? Or did you leave it in the car and now your gun is going to be used in a crime along with the stolen car? Try explaining that to "Officer Friendly".
Even if you try to stop them in the act, they tend to have bigger guns and know how to use them during a crime better than you. This is what they do for a living. Let them take the car while you call the police and your insurance.

don't bother with steering wheels locks. thieves can take
them off in seconds. waste of money.
just remember no matter what you have on your car. if a
thieve really wants your car he can take it whenever he
wants. it's that easy.
