Honda Accord, CR-V and Pilot post gains; Acura Division up 20.8 percent Text Only Honda_Nov09_Sales.doc Honda_Nov09_Sales_Chart.xls
12/01/2009 - TORRANCE, Calif. -

American Honda Motor Co., Inc., posted November sales of 74,003, an increase of 5.5 percent based on the daily selling rate* when compared to November 2008 results of 76,233, the company announced today. American Honda year-to-date sales of 1,043,641 represent a decrease of 21.7 percent based on the daily selling rate*.

Honda Division posted November sales of 65,234, an increase of 3.7 percent versus November 2008. The Accord registered the most sales of any Honda model for the month with 17,239, an increase of 7.5 percent. Additional models with year-over-year sales increases included the CR-V, up 24.8 percent to 13,955; and the Pilot, up 26.2 percent to 6,502.
"We're finding opportunities for growth in multiple areas of the market," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "Consumer interest is returning in several segments, including light trucks."

Acura Division sales increased 20.8 percent to 8,769. The MDX led the division with sales of 3,465, an increase of 79.3 percent. The TSX and RDX also recorded gains, up 35.0 percent and 50.5 percent, respectively.

*The daily selling rate (DSR) is calculated with 23 days for November 2009 and 25 days for 2008. Year-to-date, the DSR is calculated with 280 days for 2009, versus 282 days for 2008. All percentages reflect DSR.

It looks like things are starting to recover for the car industry. This is the first month this year that has ended with any real gain in sales for Honda, Cash for Clunkers being an exception. The Fit did not do as great as some of the rest, however. Perhaps because of a lack of supply still? Or is that price increase (for almost no reason, except the weaker dollar) deterring buyers?

If you want a 2010 Fit, December will probably be the best month to buy one for a while at it's lowest price point. If the economy continues to recover, without a double-dip recession occuring, prices will only go up from here on out.

i think normal citizens will rather buy a civic with more power and more "well known" for around the same price as a fit. but they forget that the fit cost more cause it gets imported from japan while civics are made in USA or Canada.

bah, I bet that if they do build the fit in NA, it will still be the same price, just with a reduced transportation charge.

avg americans ARE stupid really! no, i say theyre just ignorant. dont get me wrong as I am as american as apple pie and guns, but....I wanted a japanese car that was actually built IN japan! most americans do not know that their Civic wasnt built there! Ask an owner next time you come across one at their car. Really, they will eitehr say, "Oh. I didnt know that" or, "Oh, i dont care-i just like the way it looks".

For me, I wanted a japanese built car. Its the same thing with german cars. If im gonna shell out the extra cash for a german car, darn it, it had better be built in germany! Just a pet peeve. So, if honda's gonna build it here they better sell it for less than they do now! but, they wont b/c o the increased cost of tooling, etc. Just MHO.

I think Fit sales depend upon gasoline prices. I like the Swiss-army-knife aspect of the car, but most people want a bigger ride, and many in the USA simply are, well, "of size" as the airlines say. They don't fit in the Fit. I like economy and utility. I like seeing the gas pump click off after eight gallons. I don't think there are a dozen Fits in the county, and three-quarters probably belong to college students from Chicago.

Cheers.
