Would you feel safe with a couple kayaks on it?

Alright, the full blog story is up at my blog.

It is very sturdy.
The Q-Tower from Yakima
It is just a gutterless system and it works fine.

I have a roof rack on my current cat and i'm debating what i want to do when my fit finally arrives

my thule rack uses the gutter which seems fine but have any of you noticed paint damage with the pads that sit directly on the paint?

In the case of a new car i think i would preffer the trailer hitch mount except for you can't take kayaks on a trailer hitch mount without buying a trailer.

decisions decisions.

did you talk to the comapny about this? what did they say? I emailed them and they replied saying they had a team working on the Fit asap. I owned a yakama rack for a suberue and it was rated for I think 250lbs. It was great... Did I say it was great.
I like to ask how is the noise and does it effect mpg?

I was wondering what size the faring is and the length of the cross bars? I kayak and have the yakima rack for sport utility, so I will have to cut my bars down to size.

Forgettaboutit....anything that sits on (or touches) paint that long will eventually do damage. It's a double edged sword...use it, or lose it.

I dunno... Yakima (and Thule, for that matter) is pretty particular about which clips should be used with which car, and placement is always dependant upon where the structural members are located. They go through great pains to get it "just right." Using clips made for one vehicle and guessing where the towers should be placed suggests you are taking a serious risk with your current setup. I think I'll wait for Yakima to come out with Fit-specific clips and instructions.

For something like a touring kayak or a canoe, I would prefer to go with only the front tower on the car, and use a hitch-mounted bar for the rear, to give me the maximum span I can get between bars. If you're planning to carry a bike on top (again, I'd rather use a hitch mount), skis, snowboards, etc., then having both bars on the roof should give you a large enough span.

The noise is barely noticable. You have to listen to hear any difference.
I have only had the rack on for about 14 hours so I cannot tell you how the gas mileage is effected.
I realize that Yakima has very "smart" ways of placing the rack on the car.
I do too. I realized that we would want to have the towers over sturdy structural places on the car. I thought about this.

NOTE: I am not going to actually use the rack to any high load weight until yakima has confirmed what equipment should be used on the FIt.

I would like to see how far off I am from where Yakima says to place it.

The bars I used were not the correct size for my Escort.
I reused the bars and they do not stick out as much as they did on th escort.
I do not think the Fit is wider it might just be an illusion.

the clips I used are the clips that were used with the 1995 Ford Escort Wagon.

I think everyone can reference the yakima site for answers specific about a part.
