RPMs for Fit at idle?

My sport a/t idles at ~900 rpm... feels a little high. What does yours idle at?

My car is at 900 RPM if the AC is turned on, 800 if it is off.

How good is the Fit's A/C? It's cold up here and have only used the Fit's heater. I guess in TX where you are it's already in the 80's or more. Does the A/C cool well while driving at slow speeds and in bumper to bumper traffic?

AC is decent. I haven't driven my car in bumper to bumper traffic but i think it should be up to the task. Only thing that worries me is the deletion of the temp gauge. Tinting my windows would be good because of the blistering sun light.

Temp light blinks when getting hot. Temp light solid when you should be turning it off. Well I think that's what the manual said.

A maintained car should never overheat under normal use. If you run it at 7krpm in 2nd in 120f weather with the A/C on and a huge load, that might overheat it fast.

Yeah, my moms' 2000 civic is OK. I assume the same from the Fit.

Okay, mine idles at 900 with or without the A/C on...

How is the idle adjusted on a computerized car?

Okay, this is weird. So my idle RPMs dropped to 600 rpm or so for about 3 days, more like where I think it should be. I turned on the A/C to see if the idles went up with it on (it did), and when I turned the A/C off, it never went back down to 600 RPMs again a few days later now.

What's up with this 900 or 600 RPMs at idle? Something must control the idle, it's all computerized. At 900, it's wanting to go forward.

The IAC (Idle Air Control) controls the engine's idle. It works as a function of coolant temperature; the lower the temperature, the higher the idle. There is also another AC vacuum switch that is activated when you turn the AC on, hence the higer idle. There might be something wrong with your IAC or your idle might need adjustment. If you idle at 600 RPM, your car will shutter and shake.

Mmm my girlfriend's Civic SI '01 was overeating (a chance I saw the lil gauge just on time... We were waiting in McDo's drive thru). We never look at the temp gauge while driving....

The cause: there was a leak in the engine's head. Not an overuse, not a lack of maintenance... seems to be a bad luck. Cost: 800$ Cdn. It was on warranty but without the car's serial number printed on the oil change receipts, Honda refused to honnor the warranty (you understand my bad english ? I'm a french frog )

It idles fine at 600 rpm -- it was that low again today for a while. Maybe when it's hotter outside it kicks down.

Ooh new info! If I have the interior fan off, the idles are lower. Just turning the fan to the lowest setting of 1 (no A/C) and the car idles back up to 900...
