Wink Is Rust proofing necessary on a FIT?

I live in AB Canada. Rust proofing (undercoating) is usually done when you buy a new vehicle. If you look under the vehicle after it is done it looks quite messy to me.
What is the opinion of the Forum, on having it done to a FIT?

honesty - no one gave a good answer for Albertans lol.
most people who do rustproof their vehicles are from out East.
I haven't seen a lot of new cars rust here in Alberta.
We use salt but nothing close to what they use in the East.
it's up to you what you want to do really.

If they salt your roads in the winter rustproofing wouldn't hurt. It isn't a must but, maybe you should shop for prices. I keep reading about dealers trying to get people to buy overpriced services from them.

I don't know how long you intend to have the vehicle. I know myself and that I'll probably trade in a few years. Guy at Honda said if you won't have it five years, then you won't see any benefit in doing the rustproofing. Just an fyi. I'm sure you maybe already know that, but just in case. I don't know much about that stuff...

Out in your end of Canada there is way less humidity and you have dry bone cold winters and summers compared to the T-Dots wet nasty windchill and humid steamy summers.

My trip to Calgary and Lethbridge had me begging for Oil of Olay for men since my skin was drying out as hell in the early 90's. Of course I declined since I'm not gurly man. I now use Nivea Aftershave baum in the millenium.

I got mine rustproof after me and my mechanics looked under the car

there is quite a bit of "exposed" areas where rust can develop.. we decided to get it done as a safty measure

My concern is the channel framing around the fuel tank. The 2-short channels running parallel to the chassis can act as a reservoir should their weep holes plug. I'll be rust proofing the areas myself. The so called pros generally make a mess.

Another issue may be the hard points where the cars are fixed for the boat ride. The coating is damaged on mine as well as all I saw leaving the truck. The hoist will generally make contact here during routine service any way so its not that big-o-deal. Just for us neurotic types. I already put some POR-15 paint on them.

You just have to find a place you trust that can do a good job. My mechanic's sub-contractor is very good and does three coats instead of the usual one or two and I checked the underside on the hoist afterwards and it was very nicely done.

The only complaint is that they didn't take the wheels off, so there was a bit of overspray on the back of the alloy wheels, a little Goo Gone and a bit of elbow grease took care of that

otherwise I am very happen with the job..
