Feeding the Fit

This most likely has been asked before, however, I wanted to see the breakup of how Fit owners decide to induct air into their car. This includes N/A Fits only.

when spoon tested the output of a cold air intake, they found that the stock air box with an insert made more power so id say, take off the resonator on the side and throw in an aftermarket insert.

Your talking about that little chamber that sticks up, before the air enters the box right?

Stock airbox. May throw in an AFE reusable filter. No reason to mess with success.

i had a Fujita short ram intake, took it off and tried the modified OEM intake box + high flow filter. throttle response was MUCH better with the modified box and power (using that term loosely) was where i needed it for daily driving -- between 2.5k and 4k rpm.

all i did was remove the resonator and cut out all the baffles. the best part is how stock it looks

i still think the stock airbox gives the most consistent performance, so stock airbox for me.

back when i installed my CAI, i didnt think much of throttle response... if i look back today i'd probably prefer it... But after hearing the sexy intake growl, i dont know if i could ever go back

Same here!

By the way I use the stock airbox too. Seeing as how you guys are getting good results with K&N drop-ins...maybe I'll do that.

A related question:
Why do you get more consistent performance with the stock plastic airbox vs. SRIs? Does the plastic and the design/length have to do something with it?

i'm sure the stock one is "engineered" for best all around performance. The stock intake will be what most people use so im sure they test it for the best results. They (at least i think so) probably get lots of time to fully test what's best and dont have to worry about marketing it or quickly releasing it as an aftermarket company prolly would. I dont know... haha

The stock airbox is designed to give you the highest torque output at all RPM's. That's why there are so many pockets and baffles. It creates a bit more vacuum and pressure. However when you get above 4K RPM those same pockets and baffles become more restrictive. This is why most intakes for the Fit make power at 4K RPM and above. The only downfall for is that I was getting better MPG with a SRI in.
