My windshield broke! *PISSED*
While I was driving home, a rock must have flew up and hit my windshield and cracked it :wtc: I doing 40mph and wasn't on a highway.
I've called around and most places want $450 to replace it.

it's like $11-$15 for the repair kit at pep boys, but the kit i'm talking about isn't for repairing large cracks like this one. it's for the smaller star-shaped ones or beginning stages of a crack.

As for the OP.. check your insurance. I have a $250 deductible, so I pay that and they pay the rest. Of course when I got my windsheild replaced it was like $251, so the insurance barely paid anything, lol.

i've brought a car into the auto glass shop before, and when they repaired a small crack, they used the same kit that you can buy yourself at the store. but if you don't mind being charged a little extra for labor then yeah just bring it to a auto glass shop. if you buy it yourself, you need a kit with a syringe to force the resin into the crack and the air out. it also helps to put tape over your crack asap after the accident. that way you can keep dust and other impurities out so that when you repair it, the crack will become pretty much unnoticeable.

What's your comp deductible? In Kentucky, all glass breakage/safety items (headlights, etc.) is waived, so you pay nothing out of pocket. I keep comp coverage on my beat up 1991 Ranger with $1000 deductible. It costs almost nothing and they'll pay to have my windshield replaced, should I ever need to get that done again. It's already been replaced once. You might call the insurer and see if you can get them to waive the deductible. While not required, some insurers are allowed to do so.
I was living in a state that did not waive the deductible and was visiting with my Grandparents in a state that did require it when my '88 Escort GT was broken into via the rear hatch window (they were after my subs). The fact that the state required the insurance company to waive the deductible saved me big time, as that huge rear glass was some $600 before the labor cost. It was actually more expensive than the windshield in that car.
Just a suggestion: If your car happened to be in Massachusetts, the state requires insurers to waive the deductible. You would just have to get it fixed while you were there, since it obviously wouldn't have been safe to drive it home to NJ...
