I make no claims to knowing much about it at all. In fact I know very little about it. I just knew where to find the info so I put it up for those that wanted it.

If I remember right the K20A3 had electronic lift which is why people prefered the K20A2 for modding i.e. replacing the head. A web search for K20A3 or K20A2 will find lots of info on them and how they were different.

Anyway I think I read that the lift was done by a hydraulic type set up in the VTEC as opposed to the electronic method used in the K20A3.

I'm not into rebuilding engines and things like that so this may be incorrect. From what I read this was the impression that I had when I finished reading.

Someone with a better understanding will have to help you with it.

As for vtc. I think the VTEC does have vtc=variable timing control. but I can't swear to it.

Hey,

I understood the principle of the VTEC but I don't get the function of the relay and the LED that some of you install. Someone mentioned a VTEC light thread but I couldn't find it. What exactly are the advantages of installing that relay?

Biggest is just a wow factor. Other then that you can watch it and see when vtec is engaged so you can be close to having it on but not and there for save fuel by staying out of vtec.

i found that thread but that only gives infos about what vtec is. what i didn't understand it what the led is for. so vtec results in a higher fuel consumption, but is powering up the engine?
from which rpm exactly is the vtec activated on our 1.5l engines? and i have to stay below that rpm in order to safe gas correct?
