Are Fit's Made in Japan?
i'm trying to buy a Fit and my dealer said that the Fits are made in Japan and they currently can't get any because of the Cdn dollar vs Japanese Yen. he claim they're not sending any more over here (canada) because they're selling them at a loss. does any of this ring true or did he feed me
a line of BS??

North American Fits are made in Japan. Fits and Jazzes (is that the correct plural?) are also built in Thailand, China, Indonesia and Brazil.
Your dealer may still be feeding you a line, though. I suspect he is trying to get you to buy a car he has rather than the car you want. But no, I'm sure no dealer would EVER try to do that.

what your dealer said rings true to me. over the past year, both the US and canadian dollars have weakened significantly versus the japanese yen. in december there was actually a $200 price increase on the fit in the USA for this reason. i have noticed that dealers in my area have not received any new fits for several months. it is my belief that honda is depleting the fit inventory in north america and diverting these vehicles to other markets where the fit is more popular and profitable. this is why i decided to go ahead and buy my fit last month instead of waiting. although it hasn't happened yet, i believe these vehicles will be more difficult to find in the future and it wouldn't surprise me if there is a significant price increase for the 2010 model.
btw, the sticker on my vehicle says it was made 100% in japan.

My other theory is that with tight credit and the drop in gas prices this year, demand for the Fit has softened considerably, and dealers are wary of being stuck with high inventory on a car line with very tight profit margins.
When I bought mine in March, the dealer had 21 Fits on the lot. They have 8 now, and have only received two that I know of since I bought mine, so I suspect Honda has cut way back on deliveries in the U.S.
Another consideration is that the model year is approaching the end, and dealers don't want to be stuck with unsold '09s on the lot with the '10s on the way.
If the problem is the exchange rate between the dollar and the yen, I suppose Honda COULD deliver Fits manufactured elsewhere, if they wanted to.

Someone just posted an article in the GE forum that indicates that Big H is considering moving production of the NA Fit to the US and part of that was due to the strong Yen driving up the cost.
But I would call other dealers...

If they move the fit here I would expect they would put it in one of the Ohio plants that make the cars.

one until March. It was silver and I had just had two cars in a row which
were silver so I wanted something different. My first choice was for a BOM but the dealership said it would be impossible to find on the east
coast - so I decided on a VBP but it did not show up in May and I
was told it would be June. The MR became available so I decided that I could be happy with the MR - glad I did. My car is a 2007 and this picture was taken yesterday at a local car show.
Looks pretty good for a daily driver!

I waited a good 6 months, and I didnt even end up getting the color I wanted... so I got impatient. it was lame... as soon as they hit the lots they were sold, so waiting for my color was a super huge gamble
