My copy of the bill says nothing about which rating is accepted.
Mahout, the 89 XJ Cherokee 4X4, 5MT can be found here:

Model 1 Vehicle Characteristics

Combined average FE: 17mpg

The CARS website has a direct link to the above govt. site for use in determining MPG for this program.

The XJ has been running in my care for just shy of 3 years, smogged, insured and registered for the entire time. That's why she's a great candidate for this program. Hunk of junk she may be, ugly as sin, rusting, but meets all inspection standards to be on the road.

Now, to pricing on the FIT:

I've been quoted:

2009 FIT Sport Automatic MSRP / Discounted price (including Dest): 17,820 / 17,145 (675 savings)

2009 FIT Sport Manual MSRP / Discounted price (including Dest): 16,970 / 16,319 (651 savings)

I know invoice is pretty close to MSRP on the FIT, but can we go deeper? Mid 6's just doesn't seem like much in the way of savings.

Here is what I am getting mine for:

$16,479 2009 Honda Fit Sport automatic - including dest. charges
$ 1,195 sales tax (7.25%)
$ 250 doc fee
$ 80 plate transfer from van

Total Cost - $18,004

Minus $4,500 for van on C.A.R.S. program

Finance $13,504 for 60 months

They are available from this dealer for $500 more for everyone...but because of a mixup that occured, they are honoring the price they quoted me at the end of last month. I'll fill in all the details after the deal is done.

With CARS looming, I suspect that dealers aren't as motivated as they might normally be at the end of July, with 2010 models looming, and lots of inventory. I've been dealing with two dealers, who shall remain unidentified. The first gave me the sort of run-around that gives automobile salesmen a well-deserved bad reputation; "I'll have to talk with my boss"; "We don't know if we're going to participate in CARS." The second was very straightforward and quoted me exactly what Edmunds lists as invoice + delivery, so I have made my choice. The second dealer also has an A+ BBB rating, while the first is unrated. If you have a choice between multiple dealers, check BBB for problems.

Tidewater blue metallic Sport AT, to be picked up on July 29. I've got the perfect vehicle for trade: 1996 Nissan Quest that is running, but barely -- a clunker if ever there was one.

Thanks to all on this forum who have contributed to my Fit awareness -- whether you knew you were doing so or not.
