Fit Trailer Hitch ?

Fit Trailer Hitch ?
New member here after buying one of the first 2007 Fits sold in Canada. It's averaged 42 MPG in mixed driving on the first tankful, which is about the same as the diesel VW I just parted with ! My first impressions are good, although the seat would be better if it tilted as I'm tall and there isn't enough padding on the front of the seat to support my leg, which throws all the weight on my heel. Lots of room with the back seats down, although my dogs aren't happy that the windows don't go all the way down. It's a pretty impressive package though, and I'm happy to finally have 6 airbags and ABS.
My question : can a trailer hitch be mounted ? I like to carry bicycles on a rack that mounts under a hitch ball. Can a roof rack be mounted ?
Thanks for any tips.

The manual says no towing. However, Fit/Jazz's sold in other countries allow towing and a trailer hitch is available as an accessory. Perhaps it has something to do with the NA bumpers, but I would think that you could design around that. Is there some legal issue that would prevent the support of towing?
I think that it is a terrible shame that we do not get to see the true utility value of this great car. The bicycle racks are just the beginning. This car would be great for pulling around a small trailer with mowing equipment, or a motorcycle/4-wheeler.

I contacted Hidden Hitch, who responded that they don't currently have any plans to offer a hitch for the 2007 Honda Fit. They suggested I try back in the Fall, to see if things have changed.
Maybe, if a bunch of people send them inquiries, they'll get the hint that there's a market out there for it.

When I was in Brazil last week, almost every fit I saw has a trailer hitch. I asked the local why on earth they put a trailer hitch on a sub compact? The answer I get is that "it is more for protection rather than towing". And I am talking about a full hitch with socket harness.

Well, what about just a hitch for bike rack
I understand no towing but does adding a hitch void the warranty if I don't plan on towing anything? I just want to add a bike rack. Roof rack is an option but I'd prefer not getting those clips that stick between the doors and the frame. Argh.....

i've heard horror stories of honda dealerships voiding transmission warranties when cars came in with trailer hitches.
the particular story i'mthinking about is a guy that never towed anything, used it only as a bike rack but honda didn't care.

Faulty thinking! If someone hits a hitch it will probably deform the frame - the bumper it is designed to resist that very sort of impact. That is why the US/CN version is longer. You might get a paint scuff or at worst a soft dent that can be popped out easy.
Hitting the tail-lights is worse - a lot of pickup truck bumpers will really do a job on any small car :-(

yes, but what is a minor paint scuff (pretty easy to repair) without a hitch becomes a more serious frame tweek if the force is directed onto the single point of the trailer hitch. If some near-blind "park-by-feel" driver hits your car they won't care if you have a hitch or not...

Here is how I transport my bike for now. I also would like to put a hitch on. I do not like the idea of a roof bike rack for looks and the increase in fuel usage.
I would not have bought the FIT if I couldn't fit a bike inside.
