The other night coming home from Tororto I was at 120 with odd burst to 130 and 140 once. It was a Fitting experience. Just going with the flow - oh wait maybe a bit faster than the flow.

A friend just came home from South Africa. Limit is 120 and most drive 140. He had a rented BBP Fit. He was impressed.

Note he's talking klicks, or kilometers per hour, not mph. Multiply kph by 0.621 to get mph. 140 kph is 87 mph.

also please note he's talking km/hr not knots
multiply km/hr by 1.852 to get knots. 140 km/hr is 76 knots

common sense?

If you're by yourself whatever's comfortable just so you don't get a ticket. If they are too risky then its the speed closest to the mainstream that avoids a ticket. In that case its generally the right hand (slowpoke) lane too. And keep a eye on your rear view mirror; some nitwit may decide at speed to pass right and you won't see him coming easily.
only a nitwit would force a faster car to pass on the right!!!!!!
u should ALWAYS be in the right lane except to pass
if there is room on the right for another to pass, that means you are hogging the left/middle lane!!
stop being a dangerous pylon!! keep right except to pass!!!

going with the flow is the safest AND best way to avoid tickets (think about the herd avoiding the lion), remember you can get a ticket for driving too slow

Oh what a relief. I was worried somebody was going 140mph in a Fit and getting very poor fuel mileage.

Knots? Who is at sea? Wait I was on Friday evening again driving to TO. Heavy heavy rain and wind. Lots of traffic. A touch on the brake light of a car ahead and you were pretty much blinded. Had the Fit up on the crest of a few waves or wait it was standing water. Had to slow it down to 80.

Easy conversion to MPH from KPH. Just multiply by .6. 100 kpm is about 60 mph or closer to 62 mph.

Obey the maximum speed limit posted on signs along our roads and highways, but always drive at a speed that will let you stop safely. As a general rule, drive at the same speed as traffic around you without going over the speed limit.

I always following the signs because I don't want to lose my License.

I have a GD w/ a 5 speed. All I will say is, 75MPH, 4K RPM cruise, NOT the most economical.

I know with the GD's, you can go around 60-62 mph and stay out of vtech, this seems to achieve the best mileage

5th gear seems to be exactly 20mph per 1000 rpm, so 60mph is 3000rpm,
80 is 4000 which seems pretty high.

Well the rule is different for us CA folk. We need to go at least 75 or be ran off the road and beaten. I am surprised people drive that slowly at night in TX, people in LA area here drive faster at night it seems. Less people = I think I should go 100 mph! ( I don't but I see it frequently)

If it's all clear, sometimes I'll give it a go. Sometimes you have to give the engine a little WOT exercise. Clean out those injectors.

Isn't that a nice speed? Around 2800. Getting there in a hurry and not likely to get a ticket either.

Ever notice each car has a particular speed that it just seems 'happy' at? Everything just seems to get really smooth and quiet? With my previous car, a '91 Accord SE, this was right around 70 - 75. My '09 Fit Sport MT seems to like 80 mph, even at 4000 rpm. I think these cars are meant to be revved. And the PRM intake has a nice growl that doesn't hurt at all.

I saw a Consumer Reports spreadsheet some linked here with 10 or so cars. The milage was listed at 75, 65 and 55 MPH. All vehicles got substantially better milage as the speed dropped. The differences were biggest with the smaller engines though most were averaging 5 MPG better milage with each 5 MPH drop in speed.

Drag increases with the square of speed, and the power required to overcome the drag increases with the cube of velocity. All other things being equal (although they never are), slower = better gas mileage. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_(physics)

isn't the most important thing is to have a steady foot and to be in a high enough gear for your car to not die but still pull with just the right amount of torque to keep it going?
