insurance, anyone?

i've been searching all over for insurance rates for the fit, and the only place that seems to show it is state farm. everything else just shuts down as soon as i say it's a 2007. anyone find a good rate? i've been using the 2006 civic dx as my stand-in for the fit, and the quotes i'm getting are HUGE! hopefully the insurance websites can catch up with what's new on the market. any info would be appreciated.

I wouldn't use the Civic as your stand-in. It has a very high theft rate which has pushed insurance rates up on that particular vehicle.

My wife just ordered a Fit Sport and beforehand I spoke with my insurance company on the rates. It will cost us $115 / month ($1380 / year) to insure the Fit. She's 23, married and has no tickets/accidents on her record.

She was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot EX, so needless to say we're saving money on insurance AND fuel. :-)

Pre-purchase I tried Progressive to see what the change would be. They didn't have the Fit in the system yet. However, sticking a value on the car made it jump by $200 for six months, putting me around $1000/yr. I was paying slightly under $600 previously with a clean driving record, owning an older sedan, and being over 25.

I hadn't been carrying collision on our two old cars. Dropped the Accord from my policy, added the Fit, including collision, and my cost for 6 mos with Allstate only went up $107. The revised policy lists discounts for ABS, anti-theft & air bags.

Try Costco's insurance. My gf is 35 years old and no tickets. The annual payment is around 900.00 a year.

Talking

My agent used the Civic rates (symbol 13--same as the Mazda 3) to tell me it would be $500/year for me. I also have a 99 Odyssey and my home with the same company. I'm covered through United Fire, which is an Iowa company, with the following details.

100,000/300,000 Bodily Injury
1,000 Medical Payments
100,000/300,000 Uninsured Motorist
100,000/300,000 Underinsured Motorist
500 Comp Deductible
500 Coll Deductible

I guess reaching 40 wasn't all bad....

Hondyboy, that's surprising. I would have figured that of all countries, the car drivers in the US would have 10-100 million dollars in liability coverage.

Why two numbers?

I have $2 million in liability coverage, wasn't much more than $1 million. I'm still waiting for an insurance rate on the Fit. I'm expecting it to be around 110$/month.

The first number is "per person", and the second is "per occurrance", so if you see $100,000/$300,000, then the maximum coverage per person in an accident is $100k, with the total max for the accident not exceeding $300k.

Mine is $299.52 per six months with State Farm on the Fit Sport (rates are slightly lower on the Base Fit), but I get a multi-line discount and multi-car discount, since I have my homeowner's and truck covered with them. I also get an accident free/good driver discount.

Keep in mind that a lot of insurance companies now pull a credit report when quoting rates, as well. So, someone with good credit and a lien against the title may get a better rate than someone with bad credit, even if they're paying cash for the car.

Yes, with liability in the states, you're probably right....

I have heard "experts" suggest getting $1-2 million in "blanket coverage" (or something like that). I haven't investigated that. I guess it boils down to risk. That's why I need wood in the car....to knock on it frequently....

I'll sell you some nice Canadian wood for your Fit. Might be a bit pricey after they add the tax in the US...

Progressive still doesn't have the Fit up. But they did have the Toyota Yaris. Using that my insurance went up $132 for the entire year. Around 732 a year or roughly 60-65 a month. Considering how many airbags Honda throws in, I wouldn't be surprised if it's slightly less than that quote.

Through Geico our insurance was $457 for 6 months. This was in Oregon with Comprehensive and Collision plus the basics you are required.

I pay $386 for 6 months through USAA, which is $60 more than I paid for my 2001 Odyssey, but I'm old, married, and haven't had a ticket in 16 years.

My guy quoted me for a 06 Civic DX as well at about $110 a month probably a little lower.
