1300 Lbs, can the fit handle it?

everything is stock as far as the springs/suspension goes. i need to pick up some flooring, about 20-some boxes, 3 by 1 feet. ill make it fit, but my concern is the weight. i drove an SUV before, honda pilot, and was picking up tiles, and damn the weight came down alot, barely any space between the tire and teh wheel well. But what about the fit, can it handle it...? im trying to do it in few trips as possible, (one ) since its kinda far. some of the speed limit is 65 (doing 72), speed idc, braking idc, its the weight/dropping issue that im worried about. oh and if im doing this, what PSI should the rear tires be at? and if the fit can't handle it, whats the max load capacity she can handle? im going to try to spread the weight towards the middle so that way it isnt all in the back. so, about 30 minute drive, 72 MPH (low gear high RPM), 1300 LBs, 3'x1', brake early, any suggestions heads-up? thanks in advance. should i take out the spare tire...?

im pretty sure the max safe load is about 800 pounds.. anything after that is at your own risk

i forget what the vehicle's GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is. it should be on a sticker on the driver's door jamb. the GVWR minus the vehicle's weight is the maximum weight the manufacturer designed the car to handle. in other words, the GVWR is the maximum weight that the vehicle plus its load should not exceed.

i'm too tired right now to go outside and check the car, but if this website is accurate...Double Take: AutoWeek Magazine the fit weighs 2432 lbs. and GVWR is 3446 lbs.

so 3446-2432= 1014 lbs.

so if those weights are indeed accurate, honda rates your 07-08 fit to handle a load of 1014 lbs. in cargo/people/accessories. but if i remember correctly, the weight of the fuel and other vehicle fluids is NOT included, so you'd have to subtract that away from 1014 lbs. too. i guess the fit can't really carry a lot of weight..

to answer your question, no your car can't safely handle that much load.

700 to 800 is what the manual says. Anything above that may be more risky for suspension than tires. When I had stock suspension, wheel gap closed in with an extra 500 lbs of weight. Also, you'll have to factor in conditions... if you hit a relly bad bump on the road or a dip, or pothole, can't be good for an overloaded car.

You would risk your car and your safety to avoid one 30-minute trip?

Make two trips, Dude.

Definately make 2 trips man. What if you need to slam on your brakes to avoid an accident? The Fit's brakes suck as it is, no way it has enough bite to stop a 3500lb car.

Two trips and slow the heck down. If the speed LIMIT is 65, it means the maximum speed, not the minimum... I've personally carried 750 pounds of people and at least 200 pounds of stuff in the car and we bottomed out once on a 1200 mile trip.

Last week, I picked up 49 12-inch diameter concrete patio stones in one trip at 16.5 pounds each and had no problems. (thanks, Craigslist!) Of course, I didn't exceed 50 mph with all that weight in the back on that trip.

(ones that they issue when your 18)
