Fit Asian/North American spec comparison

Just curious as to why the asian Fit is 3 secs slower to 62 mph than the North American Fit, yet the asian Fit is lighter, has the same torque, and has one hp more. Any ideas?

It's the fault of the CVT used on Asian-market Fit/Jazz models. The reason is simple: Honda programmed the CVT not to give a big burst of initial acceleration power, a very viable safety feature on Japan's very crowded urban streets. The fact that Honda didn't sell the CVT in the US market tells me Honda decided to use the five-speed automatic from the 2006 Civic because that automatic can be programmed for stronger low-end acceleration, something that American drivers are used to.

When the Fit has its full-model change (possibly by Fall 2007 for the North American market), it will use a CVT automatic, one that has been designed specifically to provide stronger low-end acceleration American drivers want. Essentially it would operate very much like the JATCO CVT's Nissan will use on the 2007 Versa, Sentra, Altima and Maxima models.

I would say it is because oof the NA more aggressive gearing, but the NA version is a bit heavier too. The NA version has more HP and TQ...
