Exclamation DO NOT be ashamed of your Fits!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the great comments.

Many of you know that I recently traded my Fit for a Honda Insight.

I want to firmly say to all of you, I didn't trade the Fit because because it is a deficient car. I traded it because I needed something a little different.

I wanted a
  • High-mileage
  • Honda
  • Hatchback

Other factors were at work too. But the Fit is an amazing car and I will always love it. It reminded me of the earlier Civic hatchbacks of many years ago.

DO NOT be ashamed of your Fits because of anything other people say. Most of them are a$$holes anyway. I have found that a lot of people with bigger, more expensive, muscle cars and trucks are admiring Fits because they realize they made a wrong choice and they're envious. They're getting 17 mpg, or have expensive repairs all the time, or a really high car payment.

This week I had a lot of neighbors and co-workers come up to me and ask why I traded the Fit. One girl said she actually loved the Fit and thought it was "cute". Other people have admired my Insight, but also said very complimentary things about the Fit too.

It took a change like this to bring out comments in other people. I think that in our culture, people are afraid to express things that they really like because it will seem "below" their social status or 'manhood' or whatever.

Funny thing -- with the recent collapse of GM and Chrysler, this week another co-worker came up and asked me some detailed questions about my Fit. He was considering getting rid of his Saturn and wanted a nice, efficient car like the Fit!

I tell you, if Honda made an EX-L NAVI CVT Hybrid Fit, I might have bought that instead of the Insight. Well, in a way I did.

Cheers.

one thing i have noticed... women will routinely say they love the looks of the car. but ive yet to get one positive comment from a guy.
yeah when i first go my car a friend of mines asked what was it and said it looks like a pregnant roller skate i gave him a little laugh and then a nice wave of the finger

Ignorance at its finest! Never be ashamed of your Fit. They chose to buy their car, you chose yours. Not your fault if theirs was made by a company that couldn't handle it's finances and wasn't putting more effort into making advances in alternative fuels and better design like Honda does. These companies were so happy just sitting back and making minor mods to their new models while Honda was developing hybrids, hydrogen-powered, and NATURAL GAS-powered cars...who the hell you think I'm gonna buy from? I will be happy buying imports til I die...and they'll probably be all Hondas! Honda kicks ass!!!

In my opinion...

Think of this instead. From 12-15mpg to 27-29 mpg in the city? plus a smaller gas tank than any other car that wastes 12-15mpg?.... man you saving money and gas. Think about it, you may not have a lot of money but you're still saving it. I had a Chrysler 99 Intrepid and it was wasting my money if a very short period of time. I wasted around $3,500 to $4,000 in 6 months trying to fix it all up. It took around $40 to $50 of gas in less than a week.

Now with a Fit, with just $15-$20 of gas and it last for a week or so. So don't be ashamed of what you've got because they don't understand that riding a Fit is saving both ways, money and gas

I had to put 14.5 gallons of premium into my TL today. That would take our Fit over 500 miles easy, and I'd only need regular. No such luck with the TL. Just wait until we see the summer gas prices.

There are a lot of people buying hybrids like Priuses out here in the country. Frankly, I think the Fit is a much better deal, but most people around here don't know what the Fit is when they're looking at it. I don't ever see Prius owners having to stick up for their decision to buy those strange little cars. They're proud of their hybrids. I feel the same way about the Fit.

Cheers

There are a lot of people here in Puerto Rico that drive a lot of Yaris (hatchback and sedan), besides that now the Fit is a little more often in the street but not as much like the Yaris. Other than that... old cars, like the Tercel, Mirage, Echo.... small cars. But there are also a lot of cars that waste a lot of gas and people are complaining about it. My father has a Hybrid Camry and he loves that car but he's planning to get rid of it due to the battery. Once the warranty expires, he's on his own when that battery doesnt work anymore.

So besides the hybrid cars, the Fit is a great economic vehicle to have and to drive. Just that a lot of people don't see that.

I drove to Vegas and Back, 1300 miles, on a holiday weekend, for about 80 bucks. That's insane, especially with all the crap in the car. I like it best for finding parking spots. Other than that, I do prefer a lil bigger car, as I'm 6'3" 215lbs. If it had some balls(even 140-160hp it would be a much better car.

I will probably trade in my fit for an insight or fit hybrid(should be next year). My friend is selling his 06 or 07 EXL v6-6speed accord sedan for cheap. If I could get a definite buyer for my car I would sell the fit in a heartbeat for another accord. I want the extra room, more power, with still good mileage, and more safety.

The fit is a good lil car, it just is a swiss army knife. It does a lot of things pretty well, but it doesn't do anything extraordinary. It provides probably the most Utility of any car out there, and when people are in a recession, they wanna maximize utility of the vehicle.

If it had a k20, or even a lil bseries, it would be a perfect lil car.

FYI, so far there are NO plans on importing the Fit Hybrid to the states.

I wish that the all wheel drive Fit was available here....My wife wants 4wd so she doesn't have to worry about getting to the closest pavement to us when the road partially washes out during storms or gets so dry that the sand tries to swallow up 2 wheel drive cars.... We are thinking Suzuki or Subaru.... I live in a area that is over run with trucks but I have never had anyone say anything negative about my car. I had the 1St. one in this county and there are 4 more now, all owned by people 40years old and up.

Hicks love to talk trash the fit. Everyone else is just like, how much stuff can you fit in there, or what gas mileage are you getting. The funny part is its usually better than hybrids when I ask people at the gas station. Im getting 10+ more MPG than my sisters highlander hybrid, and 3-4mpg more than altima hybrids

Perfect little car? You mean completely different car. And forget about the gas mileage you currently get.

Might as well get an rsx if you want a k20

not entirely true. gas mileage will go down but still be better than a dc5 due to weight difference.

there are k20 gen1 insights that regularly get 50+ mpg

Yep, it would still get decent mileage. It's still a honda 4banger with Vtec, just a much better engine with better vtec. Plus 6 speeds means you have higher final drive. My lil bro's H22 hatchback EG got 35+mpg in regular mixed driving, which is about what the fit gets.

Ahh true, forgot about the weight difference

Trust me you dont want that transmission, the engine is great though and then you have the dc5 chassis which is not so great

So yea I understand that you'd want the engine but unfortunately that consequentely means you have that horrible tranny.

As someone whom is not from the US, I am not sure that I relate fully to this discussion, but I thought that I would give my view.

In South Africa 'desirable' cars are German made. BMW and Mercedes are what people own when they have it made, probably because we have excellent highway systems with straight roads and police whom are not too keen on doing any work.

I have had 1 Datsun Stanza, 2 Ford Escort ( one pickup, one sedan), 2 Toyota Cressidas, 2 Land Rover Defender, 1 Datsun Champ, 1 Toyota Corrolla, 1 Audi A4. Next car will be a Jazz. The best cars out for that bunch were the Japanese cars. There is a very good reason that there is only 1 Ford. We say First On Rubbish Dump. The toyotas didnt die. I have that Corrolla still with 400000km on it (+-250000miles) the biggest service so far was a power steering problem at 350000km. The Audi is wonderful to drive, but the quality is poor and VW/Audi are very good at taking a big car and giving it the smallest interior possible. A friend has a BMW and the quality of the interior is so shockingly poor that it disgusts me. The finishings are all worn down and peeling after 4 years. Unacceptable. Defenders are noisy and suck to drive in town. Most of the interior is loose, but it is a great off-road vehicle. Note off-road.

Why the Jazz is great: great build quality, fuel efficient, small turning circle, retain value well (cars are not an investment).

Why the Jazz is not great: The white ones seem to get chipped/scratched very easily. The fabric used to cover the floors is rubbish. It has a space saver spare tire.

American cars are undesirable throughout the rest of the world, this must be for some reason. The Ford Focus is probably an exception.

From the above the conclusion I draw is that 'desirable' cars often are rubbish. By this, I mean the type of car which a 12 year old has on their wall. Sure, things are desirable for different reasons (speed, cost, size, colour << yes that is the correct way to spell it :P ). I desire a Jazz, because it is priced well and the insurance and fuel costs are low. I could not imagine anything worse than spending a ton of cash on a car, which will devalue quickly.

People are different. If it makes you unhappy that you own a Jazz, sell it. If you can live with what I perceive to be waste of money (higher repayments, insurance and fuel costs) then go ahead and get what you like or if you cant have what you like, get something which you do not dislike.

If I were you, I don't think I'd be in any rush to move to Atlanta. That is, unless you want your Fit to spend half its time sitting in gridlock, and the other half trying to jockey for lane position on a poorly-designed interstate with three hundred thousand aggressive drivers. I have come very close to meeting Atlanta drivers many times, and if I lived there, I would take the MARTA to work.
The usual problem here in the South is not the rednecks, it's just the people who are predisposed to be dicks.
(And contrary to popular belief, we do not generally turn the firehoses and police dogs on our citizens here nowadays.)

Firefly is right. You like the car, don't you? So funk the ignorant.
Let them eat gas.
I also live in alabama and I too get positive feedback. But sometime's ill get the good ol boy riding his jacked up chev or ford trying to race or move me out of the way. Just remember there are assholes everywhere no matter where you go. I find it fun and funny when someone talks shit about my car. Well they did notice it so thats plus for me.
