Fit Compared to Wagovan

I am curiouis how the Fit compares to the old Civic Wagovan in terms of dimensions (height width length cargo capacity etc.). I have not had much luck searching on the web. Does anybody have some info on this vehicle? I know several people have said the Fit reminds them of this vehicle.

Thanks.

Try looking at the Civic wagons of around 1986, plus or minus. Maybe that's the one they mean. It was a station wagon based on the Civic car and it had a lot of room for what it was.

Picture of 1984 Civic Wagon

Just in case you didn't know what they looked like, here's the 1984 version:

... and in 1990:

Great - Thanks!

It really is close to the Fit. About 4 inches longer, but 4 inches lower. I remembered the first generation, but had forgotten about the second generation - nice looking vehicle. I can't believe they did not sell a ton of them.

I am guessing the older version was a tad shorter.

Yes the 1985 2WD & 4WD Civic Wagons ("Shuttles" overseas & based on the 3rd gen Civic) were shorter at a 96.5 in (245 cm) wheel base.

I purchased a 4WD Civic Wagon in 1985 and put 225,000 miles (362,102 km) on it over a 10 year span.

I'm sure glad to see a small (on the outside) Honda Wagon once again. I can't wait for next week, my Silver "S" is due to arrive

I've tried to tell people that the Fit is Wag-o -van's reincarnation but they don't get it

Looks just like my baby, 1985, but in white. It held an incredible amount of cargo, 6 ft. plus people, and got 40 mpg highway. What a car!! No mechanical problems, just routine maintenance. Wish I hadn't sold it after 10 years and 165,000 miles. (Bought an Accord wagon -- loved it, too, but it didn't get the good mileage, and it actually was more road noisy!) The Fit reminds me of CW and I'll let you know next week how similar I think they are. I whined to a salesman at a local dealer (who told me to check out the Fit) and even wrote to Honda begging them to bring the Civic wagon back. There was a Wagovan version, which was more austere (and I think it only came in MT), popular for small businesses that used it for cargo rather than people. I used to see them painted up with advertisements (like florists). The Scion xB seems to be the "in" car for small businesses now.

That's because the funky shape of the Scion xB makes it stand out very easily. Hopefully, small businesses will take to the Fit, since the Fit's amazing interior flexibility makes it great as a delivery vehicle of small items.

That picture is a dead ringer for my '84 Civic Wagon. (Wag-0-Van had clothes hanging rods in the rear side windows and lacked the sleeper seats. The rear seats were not split)

The Wagon seats folded into beds and I spent many a night on an air mattress in a sleeping bag. I put 283,000 miles it with only muffler (2) and oil changes. Original clutch. I sold it because I wanted air bags and safety features. The car was fast and fun to drive.

If the Fit is half as good, it will be worth twice the price!

That's MY car...it's still plugging along and getting 28-30 in the city and 30-35 highway, but cosmetically it's time for a major change so I decided to go whole hog and get FIT!!!!

I've sent Honda a letter every year since 1996 asking them to bring the wagon back...took them a while, though, didn't it?!?

I guess I'll owe ya' one!

I patiently waited for the 1992 Civic Wagons to come out with air bags and ABS. I was going to buy one.

They never came out.
