I pump 89 octane Ive tried testing my MPG and the most I get is around 240 to 260 miles with around 9.45 gallons of gas from full to half way ive checked to see how many miles i driven and i only manage to get 130miles!!! WTF IS WRONG WITH MY CAR!!! I see everyone else is doing great I dont know what the problem is but I want to fix it!!! can you guys help me

I get better gas mileage using 87 rather than 89 or 91. Tests have proven higher octane gas won't give you better fuel economy or more power. The engine was designed to run on 87; use it!

Also, no matter what kind of car you have, the first half tank will always take you further than the second half. I don't know why, that's just how it happens.

To boost your MPG, try easing onto the power rather than accelerating too quickly. I have an AT, so a general rule I like to follow is just barely touch the gas pedal, just enough to get the car rolling. If the tach goes above 3000, I know I'm accelerating too quickly. On the freeway, keep it under 60. Peak efficiency is at about 55 mph; I once drove 520 miles on 9.757 gallons by doing nothing other than staying at 55 mph - no special tricks like P&G needed.

Try these simple suggestions and you should see a dramatic increase over what you're getting now.

Doug

You should state driving conditions, AT or MT and your driving style.

Put your right foot on a crash diet. It is way too heavy.

Like others suggested: you got to be very light on the accelerator... Keeping up with traffic and good MPG don't go too well together.
You might want to pick up a scanguage; it gives you real-time MPG which helps to adjust driving style for better MPG. It can also give you a readout of the throttle position ... It's easier to be lighter on the pedal when you have an instant read-out to aim for.

check to make sure your tires are properly inflated.. maybe even overinflate them by 5 lbs or so.

Try 40psi, I'm sorry I don't know how the scan guage work . Anyways, try accelerating slowly and shifting before 2500rpm or shift at 2000rpm. Watch the traffic ahead of you and if you know that the light is turning red, put your car to neutral and let it roll to a stop.

You want to coast as much as possible. Don't accelerate hard and keep a steady pedal, pretty much don't drive it like a sports car.

^ don't shift into neutral, keep it in gear. if you shift into neutral, the engine must feed gas into itself to prevent it from stalling. however, if you're in gear, the engine will cut off all fuel as long as you're coasting - Its free driving!!!

to coast you leave it in gear and you dont accelerate, and once near to stop you drop it into neutral?

that's more likely what Burbio is saying. Anyways, I always put my car to neutral when coasting because leaving it in gear makes the car to slow down faster and not longer.
